In the Pink Panther films, there was a genuine Oriental actor playing Cato. Although Edwards should apologise to the French for casting a British actor as a bumbling French detective.
As for Breakfast in Tiffanys. Not sure how much it was studio interference. Even in the 1980s you had directors such as David Lean casting Alec Guinness as an Indian.
