Personally, I haven't seen them and don't intend to. The Pink Panther, to me, means directed by Blake Edwards, music by Henry Mancini, and starring Peter Sellers in a sophisticated yet off-the-wall film only they can accomplish.
From "It had better be tonight" to Beyonce is a cultural gap I cant quite cope with. Nothing against Martin, but Sellers is in a different league of performance and deep down, I know Martin was aware of this. Martins Panther is a pop bubble for present targeted movie demographics. No class, no substance. Just my humble opinion.
I think we should play Cortina track, to remedy some nostalgia.

Eh, he didn't mind when the cartoon came out and plastered his name all over. It's "Blake Edwards' Pink Panther". That's just the way it goes.
He's not endorsed it, but he's also not demanded the rights be pulled for the use of his name. If Frank Miller has the right to do that on movies based on his work, so does Edwards

I don't think he's upset over the writing credit because its a creator credit and not story or screenplay credit. He was rather vocal that no one felt the need to consult him before, during, or after shooting. He has made some public remarks that he doesn't understand why Steve Martin wanted the role and that he has nothing to prove in taking on the character. He chose not to give the film his endorsement or take part in any publicity for it.

I saw an interviewer try to ask this question, but all Blake really said was "They never consulted me" or something to that affect. It seemed like he was more upset about his name being listed on the writing credits when he didn't write it than the fact that it was made at all.
