I can't say Greta Garbo fills my idea about how beautiful somebody is. What I really don't like are her eyebrows. I would like to see a more natural Greta Garbo if that photo exists. She looks very nice in most of her pictures. She is charming and I guess this adds a lot at her stardom. Unfortunately even with her eyebrows she must have obeyed the rules of the timeand she does not fit the new styles. In the end she was beautiful, but not the most beautifulThat woman does not exist.

I agree, she is way over rated. Very plain, and her acting? Oh please, don't get me started! Dietrich was much more beautiful and could actually act, a talent miss Garbo was lacking in. On a scale from 1 to 10, I give her a 4. Case closed.

Those who do not think Garbo was beautiful need to see her in TORRENT [1926] and her silent films with John Gilbert. She is breath taking in those as she is in everything.

I assume anyone who doesn't think Garbo was gorgeous has a standard of beauty that thinks some Bozo like Kim Kardashian is "beautiful." Garbo was unbelievably beautiful, ethereal and amazing looking.

I think she was very beautiful and classy and also very mysterious. Austrian pop star Falco was so enamored by her that he wrote a song about her, which came out just a few years before she died. She was apparently his ideal woman.

I think Garbo was at her most beautiful when she made her first Hollywood film [and the film that made her a star] THE TORRENT [1926]. She was breathtaking and so charismatic. Of course her beauty never left her, but those who doubt should have a view of this.

She was strange IMO, like in the 1920's when she first made Hollywood films, she was stunning. I'd say after she made Anna Christie her looks went down hill, like in Camille her face is very harsh looking. In Ninotchka she looked at her worst. By the time she made her last film her face was maturing and her beauty was starting to shine through again. The screen test she did was also beautiful. Very strange the way her looks came and went. She was never a natural beauty though, despite what people say, before she was in films she was just a normal looking girl, a tad plain in fact.

Greta Garbo was certainly a gorgeous woman, even if she was 'uglied-up' for a scene, she still looked hot.
On the other hand, I never understood why people thought Jean Harlow was attractive. Those shaved off & penciled on eyebrows always gross me out.

I think Garbo was at her most beautiful and stunning in ANNA KARENINA.

She had a stately kind of beauty and an understated sexuality. Her appeal is not immediately obvious to some people. I found her magical on screen in her ability to convey emotion with her face and eyes. She had mystery. I can appreciate different types of beauty. Her bone structure had a cool formality and dignity that doesn't translate into prettiness or cuteness. She didn't look sweet or obviously sexy. It took me awhile to appreciate her, but one day I saw her in Anna Karenina and then Camille and could understand why people were mesmerized by her. Part of her appeal comes from her demeanor, her "aura" if you will, but it's a unique combination of qualities that makes her special.

Joyce Miller, that's helpful. I believe it then. In the 1930s, she does nothing for me. She obviously is photogenic. She has bone structure, big eyes. But her other features - nose and mouth, aren't anything, IMO. But I'm going by the 1930s Garbo.

I agree that her face was absolutely breathtaking in her silents. I think she was still gorgeous in the '30s, although -at least for me- her looks in period movies wasn't much becoming. Then again, her face in that famous screen test from 1949 is mesmerizing.

Have you ever watched her in silent movies when she was in her early 20s? She was gorgeous, even by today's standards. Her face changed and became more hard looking in the 30s. She was still pretty, but IMO, she was no longer gorgeous.
