I've read time and time again that Ava's looks were considered to be "perfect". I've never understood this, I've always thought that she was quite strange looking: her face is very angular, her nose is long etc
Let just clear up one thing: I DO think she is gorgeous. But not "perfect". I think the fact that she is not perfect makes her even more interesting to look at than, say, Lana Turner or Betty Grable.
So my question is: why do people keep saying her looks were perfect? Your opinions?

Ava was regarded as "perfect" by a majority. It's no surprise that someone wasn't going to feel that way though.
I highly doubt anyone who slept with her were judging the length of her nose or judging her face as "angular."
Someone is either too picky or has too much time on their hands.

I don't think she she was perfect (although her skin and cheekbones were). I personally hate her cleft in her chin but she just glowed on screen and her smile was just so radiant and that's why she is easily the most beautiful actress in motion I've seen.
I believe even Liz Taylor said when asked if she considered herself beautiful, " im not beautiful, Ava gardner is beautiful"!
It's a shame she was such a heavy smoker, she might still be with us today if she wasn't.

perfection is boring so its fine if you don't consider her perfect. i don't think anyone is perfect looking, it's their quirks that make them interesting

Sorry, nobody is "perfect." If you think somebody is perfect, it's only your opinion. Ava was a great, great beauty. She was not "perfect." Neither was Liz, Lana, Rita, Marilyn, etc.fabulous women all, none of them "perfect."
And you are correct"perfect beauty" (whatever that is!) tends to be boring. Give me a few flaws, anytime.

FAR from perfect and in many ways. The only women whose faces I've heard referred to as perfect (and they look quite similar) are Michelle Pfeiffer and Catherine Deneuve.
And both are far more talented than Ava Gardner. And far more beautiful.

Lots of people say she aged badly, but even in that TV soap opera thing she did (no idea what it was called, just saw a clip in her Bio documentary) I thought she looked gorgeous, if maybe not as show-stopping as in her younger days- but who is?
"Of course it's me, who were you expecting?"

Now, I'm no feminist, but I'm getting sick to death of this almost fetishisation of women - the dissecting of their appearance all the time. Do we do the same thing with male celebrities? Not as much, if at all, I think - and there are plenty of beautiful male stars, both old Hollywood and current.
Anyway, everyone knows there is no such thing as the 'perfect' face; have you seen those computer-generated 'scientifically perfect' faces? Booooring, so therefore not perfect.

I've never heard that, and I don't think she is, but she was obviously very attractive. What Hollywood calls "flaws" (strong nose, wide set eyes, square jaw, cleft like Ava or whatever) are actually what makes up real beauty.
I donno why they say that, but a LOT of classic actors back then were thought to look perfect.
You think you think that you're glowing, but you had been ho-ing, and now you're pregnant.
