Writer Lawrence Grobel met with Ava Gardner while researching his book on director John Huston in the mid-eighties. Gardner was a reluctant screen goddess in the fifties and sixties, but her experiences in Hollywood left her deeply distrustful of the press. With Hustons blessing, she agreed to be interviewed for Grobels book. It would turn out to be one of the actress final interviews before she died in 1990. After her passing, Grobel revisited his notes for the book and wrote about his encounters with Gardner.</p>
