I find it odd that there is no mention of that series of hilarious TV ads for Polaroid cameras with Jim and Mariette Hartley portraying a married couple.
They were hilarious, and the performances were so believable that many viewers believed the two were wed in real life.
So much so that Mariette took to wearing tees saying "I AM NOT MRS. JAMES GARNER".

During the late 1970s and into the early 1980s, James Garner appeared with Mariette Hartley in a popular series of television commercials advertising Polaroid cameras. The two actors had such on-screen chemistry that it was often believed that they were married in real life. Hartley's biography contains a photo of her in a T-shirt proclaiming "I am not Jim Rockford's wife". Hartley guest starred in a memorable episode of "The Rockford Files" during this period. The script required them to kiss at one point. Unknown to them, a paparazzo was photographing the scene from a distance. The photos were run in a tabloid trying to provoke a scandal, causing a good deal of attention. An article that ran in TV Guide was titled: "That woman is not James Garners wife!"

Those TV commercials were exceptionally well acted and written. The chemistry between James Garner and Mariette Hartley was marvelously natural and unforced. Has Hartley said anything about Garner's passing yet?
I am the Duke of IMDb bio writers! I am A#1!

They were great. My dad worked at Polaroid at this time. I was much younger and could never understand as a kid why my dad could not invite him over for dinner. I had figured they must work together.
Here is a youtube link to some/all of the commercials.
