Look at Leslie Nielsen.
Years doing drama, then after Airplane he basically switched to comedy.
And when they get to this age, actors often just are themselves. Betty White basically shows up to be Betty White.
I didn't know he was still alive. There are so many older performers out there, it's hard to keep up with them
I've enjoyed his work for years, saw Love at First Bite over a dozen times in a theater. He had a talent for comedy & like Beatty seemed to be known as much for who was on his arm, maybe more. This eats at some actors, like Errol Flynn who hated Hollywood saw him as just a pretty face, while others go with the typecasting.

What a coincidence that you should mention this. I saw him play Hank Williams (Hank Williams Jr. did the singing) last night when TCM screened

. People would be surprised to see him play the title character credibly. They would even be more shocked to know that he is actually a southerner (Memphis) since most assume that he was born in Hollywood.
Perhaps he became a parody when he dated Lynda Bird Johnson, one of President Lyndon B. Johnson's two daughters. The unimpressed father publicly stated "Christ, he looks like he was put together by a ladies' club committee." He may have taken his cue from LBJ. If the president of the United States called him a pig, he might have taken up residence in a mud wallow.
