Worldwide at his peak? Hogan wins
More Popular today with younger fans? Austin would win because his character is timeless and his matches still look great. The Hulk Hogan character was perfect in the 80's/early 90's but wouldn't work in 2016 and kids today usually don't like matches from the 80's.
More popular with merchandise? Vince has said Austin wins this one but there was easier access to buy WWF items during the Austin era
Most hardcore Austin and Hogan fans are the same people because we were young kids in Hogan's era of the 80's/early 90's and teens or 20's during Austin's era.
These are my two favorite wrestlers. I would give Austin a small edge as my favorite.
