Rock Hudson was one of the most handsome of movie stars. During the 1950s and 60s, Hudson was THE epitome of rugged and handsome masculinity among actors of that time. There were some popular idols during that time like Rory Calhoun, Troy Donahue, George Hamilton, Tab Hunter, Jeffrey Hunter, Clint Walker, Robert Wagner, John Gavin, George Peppard, John Saxon, Richard Chamberlain, Guy Madison, George Nader, Rod Taylor and Tony Curtis, but [with the exception of Curtis], none of them came to equal Hudson in terms of box office popularity.
I still find it hard to believe that Dirk Bogarde was called "The British Rock Hudson." Bogarde was too arrogant and effete while Hudson was masculine, likable and sincere.

I remember when I saw "Giant" thinking that both he and Elizabeth Taylor were impossibly gorgeous and looked like Greek gods and then, when they had a child, it was Dennis Hopper - about as far from a Greek god as is possible! (more like a geek god).

I agree with you. His body was gorgeous. I'm watching, Send Me No Flowers just now. I always get giddy in anticipation when he's in Randall's bedroom and changes into that Red henley. Gorgeous from head to toe.

He didn't have bulging muscles. He was toned and fit and defined. A lot of people don't like or want bulging muscles. As a woman, that does nothing for me. I like men lean and toned.

I actually DIDN'T get why he was considered so handsome after seeing Giant, but after I saw him in one of those Doris Day comedies I suddenly knew and even got to like him as an actor, even though I still think he wasn't especially good at acting. But he just had
