How is that Amy Irving was nominated for an Oscar and a Razzie for the same supporting role in "Yentl"? How can her performance be at both ends of the spectrum - either it was good or bad right?
I didn't see "Yentl", I was curious to see if she had ever been nominated for an Oscar and to my surprise I discovered that she was also nominated for a Razzie for the same role. Was she good or bad in it and how did this happen?

This is what the head of the Razzie committee had to say about it:
RESPONSE from Head RAZZberry:
Actually, had Amy Irving won the Oscar, your question would be more valid. But since she failed to win either award (as did Coco, by the way) I suppose it's possible to make an argument that both we and the Oscars were wrong, and her performance was merely mediocre. I voted for Irving because I found the idea that her character was unaware (even after their wedding night) that her "husband" was actually Barbra Streisand dressed in men's clothes, and not a male Yeshiva student, patently ridiculous and I thought Irving brought nothing to the role that made that notion any more credible than it would have been on paper when Irving read the screenplay and agreed to accept the part

I think she's good and very lovely in YENTL, so I agree far more with the Academy than with Razzies. Anyway Irving lost both her two awards, while this year we have another star who received both nominations (but for two different perfs) and who is the front runner for both of them
Go Sandra, Go!!!

I know nothing about an Oscar nom for YENTL as I pay no attention to the Oscars since they do not represent the typical American citizen's film interests. And I know whereof I speak, as a former film reviewer. A Razzie nom I can understand, as YENTL is an embarrassment from beginning to end.

The Razzies are all about image and if the jury doesnt
like a film or even hates it, they like to nominate as many
things/people from the movie as possible.

I thought she was good in it. I wasn't aware she was nominated for an Oscar, nor for a Razzie, but I do find that strange! If anything, it should be an Oscar. You're either good or you're bad, not both!
