I haven't posted in quite a while, but I have stated this before on the HP boards. I believe Mr. Jordan is absolutely perfect for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. His movies can be dark, but very beautiful. He would be able to perfectly capture Harry's demons and inner struggles. The magic would still be there, but I think Neil could really convey how their innocence is slowly being consumed by the collapse of their happy, safe world. Mr. Jordan said once: "I'm fascinated by monsters [and] monstrous people and fascinated with illogic and irrationality." OotP deals with the monsters within, and it is the point at which Harry's universe comes crashing down. Other people have suggested Tim Burton or Spielberg as candidates. Both very talented directors, yes, but I believe Neil Jordan is the only one who can properly give life to this amazing book. Watch some of his movies sometime. There is always a tortured being, striving to be saved. My favorite Neil Jordan film is Interview with the Vampire. Whenever I watch it now, I smile to myself and think, "perfect absolutely perfect." I want to hear your opinions, whether you agree with me or not.

"I was the first to suggest this on the HBP boards," Well, it is decent of you to own up to starting such an idiotic line of speculation. I suspect Neil Jordan would rather chew off his own arm than involve himself with such foolishness.

I was the first to suggest this on the HBP boards, after viewing breakfast on pluto, and contrasting it with The Crying Game and Vampire. I think it would be awseome to see him doing a HP movie.

Everyone keeps saying that he is "too much of an artist" to be involved in Harry Potter, but I'd consider Alfonso Cuaron an artist and he directed Prisoner of Azkaban. It's so snobby to bash Harry Potter as brainless or not artistic.

He is soooo perfect for OOtP, I totally love his style for one, and he's Iriish and all and will be perfect to tell the story from that kind of point of view, as opose to the recent efforts of the Americans and Mexicans.

Demo, I love The Company of wolves. To me it's simply the most artful, creative, innovative and all together turly unique werewolf movies ever made. The metaphors aren't as heavy handed as theywere in the original short story. And it's all together a truly unique film. There's simply nothing else like it.

I actually meant the director assigned for the fifth installment who I guess has only done British TV movies. Mike Newell is certainly a competent director but Mona Lisa Snore wasn't his best and I'd rather they try people like Jordan who have some reputation with this genre or are known for their lovely imagery like Cuaron.

Yes indeed, that's a great idea, too bad it won't be him but someone we've never heard of. The first two Harry adaptations were a snore, and the third was breathtaking. Cuaron really turned the tables, and I doubt that the next entries given their assigned directors' credentials will have that needed grasp for imagery as the third. Jordan would be great for the franchise though; I particularly love the underrated The Company of Wolves.

I agree, Interview with the Vampire was fantastic, and so close to the book. It's my favourite film of all time! I think he would be great directing HP5, Neil Jordan doesn't get as much credit as he deserves. He could really do justice to the book, and bring out the darker qualities in it! : )
