I know Jason. He now lives in Volcano, Hawaii, on the Big Island, where he has a sustainable ag farm that he works himself, off the electrical grid. He also has a small theater on the property called "Ulua Theater." (Ulua is the Hawaiian name for the giant trevally, an ocean fish). He does have an electrical generator which he uses to run the theater, which has live productions of plays (the first was Lanford Wilson's "Burn This" and he starred as Pale) and also Hawaiian slack key guitar concerts. He still practices jeet kune do and goes around town largely unnoticed in T-shirts, shorts and rubber slippers, the preferred daily wear of Hawaii's locals5b4. He is a very quiet, unassuming, nice guy.

Hey, Jason was my neighbor in Hawaii.(I now live in Colorado) He stopped by my house several times and would hang out with me and my dad. My dad is a mechanic, and he fixed Jason's truck. I helped him build a gate for the front of his house. I worked at a restaurant in our town and I was his waitress most of the time. He is such an awesome guy. Totally laid backyou wouldn't think he was a movie star at all. He loves the outdoors and loves the forest in Hawaii. He is very spiritual and very intelligent. He has a great big smile and he laughs really loud!! He acts like he doesn't care what people think of him. He used to wear junkie jeans (with holes in them) and rubber boots and stained t-shirts when he works outside. And loves it!!
I've been in his house a few times, and he has lots of martial arts stuff-including gifts from the Bruce Lee family from when he made that film. He remains a good friend of mine. I got married last year and he was in Chicago during my wedding ( he couldn't make it) but he drop5b4ped by my house later and said congrats. I've even seen him in his underwear and he is soooo hot!!

If you read the interview here - http://dvd.ign.com/articles/646/646153p1.html - I think you will get a very good idea of what kind of person he is. In it he really talks a lot about his personal philosophy.

My dad lived next to Jason's mom, Sylvia, in Hawaii and they were close friends. They would eat lunch out together and stuff. She almost came to my cousins wedding last year. As far as Jason goes, I've heard from my aunt who knows him that he is a very cool and nice person. Not like most celebrities who are obsessed with fame.
So yeah, I don't personally know him, but my aunt does. And my dad knows his mom.
And it's not like my aunt and dad just know Jason and Sylvia; Jason and Sylvia know us back.

I met Jason Scott Lee backstage in London just after seeing him perform the role of the King in "The King and I" (opposite Elaine Page it was a great production and he was a very powerful and charismatic King). Unlike on Broadway, people in London don't wait by the stage door on the West End, so there weren't a crowd of people waiting. Jason was one of the last people to exit the theater (he probably needed to shower first; his rendition of "Is a Puzzlement" was very atheletic!) and the only other people waiting there besides myself were two young asian women one with a gigantic bouquet of flowers. I let them approach him first. When the women introduced themselves, it seemed to me that Jason recognized the name of the woman with the bouquet, who was visiting from Hong Kong (perhaps she had written him). She was obviously a huge fan of his. He was very friendly and gracious, despite obviously being tired after a lively, two-hour perfomance on stage. When the other woman asked to take a picture of Jason with her friend, Jason not only agreed happily, but put his arm around the woman practically causing her to faint! It was so cute! She was totally overwhelmed by having this actor she so obviously adored simply put his arm around her!
After they left, Jason stood and talked with me for a few minutes. He was very friendly, intelligent, and down to earth, as well as genuinely appreciative of the fact that a fellow American had come to the show and troubled to come and wait backstage afterwards. We spoke briefly about some of his past roles and his future plans, as well as about living in London. Then, since he was obviously on his way home to eat a late supper (he was carrying a plate covered in foil which I held for him while he took the picture with the other girl), I thanked him for his time and said goodbye.
Though it was only a brief meeting, I was left with a very positive impression. He seems to be a very easy going man who's not at all self-impressed and genuinely appreciates that others enjoy his work. He also smiles very readily and has a wonderful sense of humor. I imagine he'd be a blast to hangout with.
One more thing: as a gay man, I certainly have to admit I had a bit of a crush on Jason from seeing him on film. He's every bit as handsome in person as on screen even with his head shaved (which he had done for the role of the King), but my "gaydar" sadly told me that while he recognized that I was gay and was totally cool with it, he is definitely straight. But it didn't matter he's a very cool guy and was a real pleasure to meet.
