she stayed one season too many. reminds me of rob morrow on northern exposure. I like the last season best. rob (and shelley) were just too whiny and annoying.

I agree too, as much as I didn't want Shelley to leave as Diane and even though I love Kirstie as Rebecca I would never have wanted to see Shelley unhappily stay with the show if her heart wasn't in it, thats not fair to herself and the audience. She left on a high and even though her post Cheers career was far from massively successful she did alright and appeared ins everal great memorable movies such as Troop beverly Hills.
And yes 5 seasons is imo a very long time to stay on a TV show playing the same character. Respect to Shelley!!
