I highly doubt Myrna Loy was the first white woman to stand up against racial prejudice. I'm sure there were white people [both men and women] who were against racism before 1905.
Loy was a wonderful person [and actress] and I admire her greatly.
And yes, Loy would have been absolutely disgusted with the former President. I'm sure she would be quite open about it as well. We need more people like her.

From my reading on her, Myrna Loy comes across as not only an intelligent person but also a wise one [yes there is a difference]. A wise person is more likely to be a more thoughtful person. They question the status quo and don't accept things just because others do.
Instead they search for the truth behind things and are better able to understand things and people. They are forever curious and do not suffer from a narrow point of view. Myrna appears to have been like this. Her lack of prejudice and wisdom combined with grace and charm would have made her a delightful person to know.

Stars like Myrna Loy were always thinking of others before herself. She worked tirelessly during the Second World War for the Red Cross. She looked down on prejudice against blacks, Jews and homosexuals, and was loved by her co-workers and peers.

I'm not wrestling with a troll but I will say I am a huge fa5b4n of Myrna Loy's and I have almost all her filmsI adore her and I adored her even more after reading her autobiography. Whether or not you're a die hard fan, it is a must read. Amazing woman, so ahead of her time.
Hard to find a copy of Being and Becoming but I managed to get one off of eBay last yearI was so happy! Seriously, you can read Emily Leider's biography of Myrna Loy (I did) but it won't ever be as great as the one Myrna penned herself with James Kotsilibas-Davis.
Her beliefs and convictions so fits even to this dayshe's someone I will always, always admire greatly. She was beautiful in every way it counted.

That's lovely to read. I'm a relatively new fan to Myrna Loy (much to my embarassment as a classical movies fan)and this gives me yet another reason to love her!

Myrna probably sympathized with the plight of black actors, as she herself had to fight against ethnic typecasting in her early career. She was frequently cast as maids, vamps and slave girls like many darker-haired actresses of the day.
She was a class act for many reasons, and being vocal about racial equality is definitely one of them.

It was Republicans who were against slavery and fought vigorously to end it. Republicans also helpful during the Civil Rights era since most Reps voted for the Civil Rights Bill while many Democrats opposed it. I am sure all of you think Republicans are racist and Democrats are all not racists. If that is true all of you should be ashamed of your thinking.
Secondly, Blacks are just as racist. Why all of you make whites to be the villains and not the blacks. Look at television today, there all black comedies with no whites. Blacks also have their own network for all black programs. "BET" At card stores there cards for blacks only "EBANY". Plus, Magazines that soley for blacks. Thirdly, I prefer actors who keep their political opinions to themselves. They should not mesh politics with their work. Most people care to see their acting not their political preferences.
What if a conservative said that hey liked an actor or actress because that actor who held strong conservative views. Liberals would mock and critize the conseravtive because they find to be shallow. All of you who posted on here prove the same for liberals.

I found ddurost's post to be extremely hilarious. Not many people can take a threat about an actress who fought for civil rights decades ago and turn it into how blacks are evil and conservatives are being victimized. It's incredible, really.

I also feel like starting a Republican Conservative Fund for all those disenfranchised conservatives out there who are constantly threatened and harassed by liberals and minorities who constantly infringe on their rights as citizens. Yes, I've also long admired Myrna as an actress and as an idividual. I agree with her politics and appreciate her strong stand for racial equality.
While you see many a White actress on screen treating her Black maid fairly, and participating in non-condescending conversations, it is pleasing to hear that Myrna has taken this notion off screen, to advance those less fortunate than their counterparts.
Now, I have yet to see Myrna's autobiography, but this indeed sounds excellent, so I shall have to place the thought upon a future wish list.

I am not sure how anyone can not be a big fan of Myrna's. If at all possible I did love her more after reading her autobiography. She was beautiful, civic minded and extremely well dressed.
