Is there any name for the accent adopted by many of the actors and actresses of Ms. Loy's era? She is from Montana and L.A., but has some sort of fakey English accent. I have noticed it with other actors, but hers stands out as particularly ridiculous when I watch her movies. I assume these people were coached to talk with that affectation to their speech and was just wondering what it was called.

Glad that you answered your own question, because most, if not all, would probably ignore your opening post, anyway.

Okay, nevermind. I just discovered that it is called a "Mid-Atlantic" accent that was adopted or taught to actors in the 30s - 40s.
