There was news coverage yesterday of the Oscars Luncheon, including a bit with Viggo. He said it was "fun to dress up" and mingle with the other nominees. I was surprised he came - probably all the way from Spain - to attend the lunch in Los Angeles.
The event is a big deal - very easy and loose, though there is news coverage, etc. The huge formal ensemble picture of all the nominees who attend is an Oscar tradition. I guess this means he'll be at the Oscar event, as he was at the SAG Awards - and probably will be at the upcoming BAFTA Awards. He's said in the past that he doesn't think much of awards (it's all a matter of opinion in the minds of the people who can vote), but apparently he is attending for courtesy's sake. Since the number of nominations he's gotten is pretty big, that means a lot of travel for him. I think it's2000 nice of him to do it.
And maybe CAPTAIN FANTASTIC will get more theater time and/or TV time because of it.

Well! Good for Viggo!
Hope he wins the Oscar, (but I doubt it) Getting his name out there again I see, has anyone seen the movie?
I WILL NEVER GIVE UP!

Viggo was still in LA the week after the SAG awards. There were pictures of him the Saturday before luncheon protesting in LA with thousands of people against the Dakota pipeline project. Yay Viggo!!

Yeah, people always say awards don't matter until they are nominated themselves, lol! All awards are a matter of opinion - just depends on who is doing the choosing. Look at the recent brouhaha with the Nobel Prize going to Bob Dylan.
I read a great joke about that:
Nobel Prize committee member: Shall we give the prize to the obscure Nigerian writer no one has ever hear of?
Other Nobel Prize committee member: On the other hand, it would be cool to meet Bob Dylan!
I WILL NEVER GIVE UP!
