The opening. BAD. For 5 minutes we have to endure a barrage of real-life footage of animals being tortured and killed. Whimpering foxes being skinned alive and beaten. Baby seals being clubbed a skinned animal that looked like a dog suffering, obviously dying very slowly, dogs getting their skulls crushed in by heavy boots. Dr. Boll apparently doesn't understand that by revolting an audience with animal torture he's not a successful horror director.
This comes directly from the Ain't It Cool site. How disgusting and deplorable! While I know you all are fans of this guy, please do not spend any money on this film. I am not spending my money on a movie that promotes animal torture and neither should anyone else! Boycott this beep (if you haven't decided to do so already) and make damn sure that Boll learns a lesson as if he could. He's not smart enough. Ok, just boycott the movie for the sake of showing everyone that real animal torture is NOT cool.
My mind called me but I forgot to pick up.
I decided a long,
long
time ago that I'm not going to waste any more time on Uwe Boll's movies. (I hadn't encountered this one yet, but rest assured th16d0at I'm not buying nor renting
anything
with his name on it.)
From what you've described, the people who need to be moved by these scenes probably won't be; and the people who will be moved will more likely be revolted.
My best response is from the last act of
Butterflies Are Free
. When Mrs Baker doesn't like the gruesome death scene Ralph has planned for Jill's character, he tells her:
[Ralph]
: Mrs. Baker, these things are all a part of life.
[Mrs Baker]
: I know, Mr Santori. So is diarrhea, but I wouldn't classify it as entertainment.
"Uncle Cosmo, why do they call it a
Word Processor
?"
"It's really very simple, Skyler. You've seen what food processors do to food?"

The movie has not been released in the US yet. August, I believe. Dr. Boll does make statements in some of his projects. I plan on watching it as Michael Pare' received an award in Spain related to Seed and it has gotten some good reviews.

I assume these scenes were not for shown for exploitation reasons? Was there a social cause behind it?

The scenes in the movie were supplied by PETA, not done for the movie! I applaud the fact that you are against animal abuse, but it happens on a daily basis all over the world, and not just to animals. How about taking it one more step and get the word out that people should be punished for abusing animals and people. We can't just put our heads in the sand and say if I don't see it that it is not happening! Sadly we seem to need reminders of 9/11 and the Halocaust because out of sight out of mind.
