is in without a doubt, Freaked. The delivery was awesome. The faces, the tone of his voice, the look. Picture perfect mad scientist/circus ringleader. Man o man, i hope they make a sequel! Ha!

He was the best thing about Caddyshack 2. His best lines include, "is it as hard to say as Oh My God There's a Man IN MY OFFICE WITH A FLAMETHROWER?" and when he turns ugly during a meeting and screams, "let me explain something about the Peter Blunt system. First, what I do is I find out where you live. And I come and beat down the door with a fu***** baseball bat" and how much he annoys the stuck-up golf players when they turn the country club into a theme park. I though he was over-the-top, but it was a character that needed to be. He does great work in Quick Chance and Bye Bye Love as well. His worst performances include: "Freaked", "Independence Day", "Hard Rain", "Not Another Teen Movie" and the abominable television movie "Next Door".

Lol! The irony!
I never saw freaked, but I was going to be clever on a dork-like scale and answer with a novel I love that's being made, and he's not in it but I always saw him as the perfect fit for one character. The irony is that it's not Freaked, but it is called Freaky Deaky.
As for his best role so far, I'd have to go with Ice Harvest. I was just impressed by how he could vacate comedy for a serious villain role, and pull it off so strongly.

"Midnight Express"he made me uncomfortable and paranoid watching that performance; very good. As for comedy, his character in the two good "Vacation" movies (the first one and Christmas), was his best, bar none. Cousin Eddie is a classic comedic sideman, right up there with Carl Spackler, Barry, and Frank "The Tank" Ricard. His work in "Quick Change" was hilarious, with dramatic undertones that gave the character the depth needed to stand up alongside Bill Murray's. Yeah.

Parents is one of those odd black comedies that you keep watching to see just how dark it can get. For me the whole movie was worth it for the moment when the son refuses to eat meat (human) at the family meal and Quaid growls "You're no son of mine" at him. Deadpan, dark, dangerous and damned funny.
And he's hilarious in both Freaked and Kingpin
The Enemy is tempting you with Cola.

I also just watched him in a low-budget, direct to video thriller called "Last Rites". He plays a serial killer named Jeremy Dillon. He is on Death Row and waiting to be electrocuted. He is put into the electric chair and a bolt of lightening strikes him and Quaid's character does not die. After healing from the lightening burns, Dillon (Quaid) has psychic abilities and forewarns the authorities of crimes that are due to happen. He claims to have no memory of his past crimes and acts totally nice compared to the beginning of the film. The movie itself is not much but Quaid gives a strong performance.

He was in a low-budget 1989 black comedy called "Parents". He played a Ward Cleaver like father. Slowly, his young son starts to realize that his parents are actually cannibals. It is not a great movie nor a bad movie. Just very strange and unpleasant but BOY Quaid's performance was sensational.
He was also great as the robotic bodyguard in "Pluto Nash" and he made a fine villain in "Hard Rain".
He frequently gets typecast as the loveable slob such as Cousin Eddie but as someone said he gave his Russell Cassb68e character in "ID4" more depth and humanity.
He was probably the best thing about the dumb 2005 black comedy "The Ice Harvest". He plays a gangster in there.
