My choicesThe lead in John Huston's Freud (orig. played by Montgomery Cliff); Mike Hammer in Kiss Me Deadly; E. K. Hornbeck (played orig by Gene Kelly) in Inherit the Wind; Davie Hucko (played orig. by Aldo Ray) in Pat and Mike; Florenz Ziegfeld (orig. played by Walter Pidgeon) in Funny Girl; Charley Gennini (orig played by Joseph Wiseman) in Detective Story; and the title role (orig Craig Stevens) in Peter Gunn; and probably Jor-El in Superman: The Motion Picture (instead of Marlon Brando).

George Reeves in Superman: The Motion Picture. I naturally thought Pa Kent but Glenn Ford did too good of a job. Then I thought Jor El, of course, but BRANDO! The only role left 4 him w/d be Perry White. But Jackie Cooper made the role his own. The only thing left is a new character. A guiding Kryptonian Elder. A guiding Smallville neighbor. A guiding worker at The Daily Planet. A role left completely open was Inspector Henderson played by Robert Shayne.

kevin_burgen; He was a gentlemanly and authoritative figure. He could've played police figures (it was hard to tell him apart from Inspt. Henderson most times). Politicians, both honest and dirty. Father figures. FATHER KNOWS BEST, OZZIE AND HARRIET. Military men. Wise men. Scholarly men. GILLIGHAN'S ISLAND. PERRY MASON. The list goes on and on.

I don't think there was much for him, at least in front of the camera.
