Danny Lockin (who toured with multiple casts of "Hello Dolly" on stage both before and after the movie) said that Rogers was the only "Dolly" that both he and other cast members (whom Rogers referred to as "sub-human imbeciles") hated working with, for various reasons. He said that the best "Dolly", whom everyone loved, was Betty Gra16d0ble. Rogers was said to be a veritable narcissitic NIGHTMARE.

coreymax23 is a troll! Ginger was well-liked and respected throughout Hollywood and her list of Hollywood friends; Bette Davis, Lucille Ball, Fred Astaire, Bob Hope, James Stewart (and the list goes on and on) attests to that. One wouldn't stay a major Hollywood star for such a long time, such as Ginger did, if people didn't like them. Nuff said.

Those who refute the facts that Miss Rogers was a nasty piece of work, can believe what they want. I'm just sharing what most in the "biz" know to be true. Sorry to burst your Ginger colored bubble, but Hollywood in general, did not care for her. It's sad but when you treat people like dirt you will not be admired.

Yes, I've heard similar stories by many who encountered her. Just a mean spirited woman who thought others were beneath her.
Seeing what you posted in another thread, I see that you are simply lying here
Why, because you have no proof, no examples to support your OPINION
This thread was started with ONE example, from a known troll who goes to every forum making up lies for the fun of it. Even if it were true, it was probably from some guy who tried to proposition Miss Ginger Rogers, who was too classy to say yes, and told him to get lost. Of course this man who didn't get his way with her, would say such nasty things, about her
I've never heard of anyone else of IMPORTANCE, which is not YOU, saying anything bad about her.
She NEVER had a reputation of being a "B" to anyone, and certainly wasn't the biggest in the business
There are plenty of other actress who proved to be bigger "B"'s than Miss Ginger Rogers Katherine Hepburn for example
Case closed.
Again with these type of comments?
Who do you think you are? to expect people to believe any post you make, with statements like
"It A Fact!" & "Case Closed"
Ahh Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
What a load of horse manure!

Betty Grable, on the other hand, was loved by all. She was a better actress, singer, comedian and yes dancer than miss Rogers. Ginger was never in the top ten favorites. Betty was the only entertainer, male or female to remain in the top ten for 10 years, a record to this day. I think that says it all. Case closed.

I read an old interview with Gail Patrick given when Patrick was a senior citizen. Patrick was a frequently employed, glamorous supporting actress in the 1930s and 40s, often as the "other woman. " Some of her movies include "Stage Door", "My Man Godfrey", "My Favorite Wife" and "Love Crazy." She also produced the Perry Mason TV series. She talked a bit about working on "Stage Door" which starred Ginger and Katherine Hepburn. She said Ginger was a delight, loved by the crew, and Katherine Hepburn was a pain in the ***. Her opinion was that Katherine H. was jealous of Ginger because of Ginger's popularity. Patrick was a true friend, because in her opinion "Ginger was a better natural actress too!" (than Hepburn). She goes on to talk about how Ginger got her roles in film when Patrick's acting career hit a lull, and how much she appreciated it.
The only other Ginger story I have was when Ginger was older and I think in some type of tour/review. The guy who told it to me worked security. His main remark was that she was extremely chatty and friendly.
I've always been curious about Ginger's mother. There are "stage mothers" that are a detriment, and then there are parents that are a real asset. It always seemed to me that Ginger's mother had her own life, didn't live through her daughter or control her, but was probably the best business manager and smart about money and her daughter's (and others) best interests. Her mother has quite a story. Unlike, say, Jean Harlow's mother, Ginger and her mother were smart about money, didn't squander it, helped others. I don't think Pandro Berman would have had the woman in his office just to make Ginger happy. It's also very important that a female star of the era get paid what they're worth, as star careers for women are very short. Just about every female movie star of that era had to make some kind of stink before they got paid what their male co-star got paid, or at least fairly. That goes on today still.

Harlow, thanks for that ^ .
I always appreciate and enjoy your comments.
Some of our most beloved Hollywood icons weren't so nice in private; others were decent sorts who occasionally flew off the handle; and still others were of the sort where seldom an evil word could ever be said of them; as far as I've always known, Miss Rogers belonged to that last class of entertainers.
I became acquainted with Erik Rhodes, Miss Rogers's co-star in THE GAY DIVORCEE and TOP HAT, in the mid 1980's and until he died; Mr. Rhodes had nothing but good things to say about Ginger and her most famous of leading men, Fred Astaire.

Your "friend" has a curious definition of what a "b*tch" is - in my opinion it's a rude, malicious, trouble making individual, things even Ginger's handful of detractors in Hollywood have never said of her. There is no way I believe Ginger ever called anyone "subhuman imbeciles". I can see her snubbing or ignoring people she didn't like but absolutely not her speaking so venomously of her coworkers. No one has ever made such a allegation before to my knowledge. Your pal frankly sounds like one of the many nasty, gossipy little people in show business in minor jobs who are ultra-jealous of the stars they come in to contact and spread nasty tales about them. It happens to every star even Ginger Rogers.

I came here because I've always enjoyed Ginger Rogers. I am shocked by the mean-spirited tripe that IMDb user PixieInChains has found necessary to write here. Danny Lockin was a "Who dat?" name until I looked him up on Wikipedia. After "Hello, Dolly!" his career declined due to substance abuse and he was stabbed (100 times!) to death by a man he met at a gay bar. What an unfortunate way to go!
Danny said nasty things about other "Hello, Dolly!" stars. Regarding Carol Channing he said "Carol Channing is rather disconcerting. You'll notice her looking at you with those big baby-stare eyes. Then eventually it dawns on you that the person behind those eyes is, in show business terms, about 200 years old". Of Ethel Merman he said "She wasn't Dolly up there, she was Ethel Merman in Dolly clothes".
So, I wouldn't take anything Danny said about Ginger as being the truth. Perhaps he or one of the other cast members felt slighted that Ginger didn't have the time to become bosom buddies with them and said "She thinks we're sub-human imbeciles". And it bacame garbled over the years. Broadway players who aren't the show's major star can be very nasty, jealous and b*tchy.
I read Ginger's autobiography when it was first published. I remember her fondness for pottery. In her autobiography she said that she took the time to make each of the cast members of "Hello, Dolly!" a pottery gift at the show's closing. I mean, how nice is that? It isn't every star who is thoughtful enough to make each member of the cast a handmade gift.
I saw the "Ginger Rogers, Joan Rivers TV Interview" on YouTube. Joan Rivers says to Ginger "You've always had the reputation of being a lady nice and warm and liked by the crew". Ginger was liked by Fred Astaire, Bette Davis, Cary Grant, Lucille Ball, Bob Hope and the list goes on and on. IMDb's Miss PixieInChains should receive a copy of "How to Win Friends and Influence People" from Santa this year. That is if he doesn't give her a stocking full of coal.

I have had the pleasure of meeting several people who had met Ginger along the way, including members of her home church. No one has said a thing to detract from her image as a kind, sincere, generous and lovely workaholic. Nor have my studies of Ginger and her life found many cases of anything said of her which were less than optimal. All of us run into a few people during our lives that just don't seem to fit in with the way things are going. Perhaps this was the case in this instance with the Pixie's friend. When one studies someone in great depth, it can feel as if you really know someone. I think that if Ginger was with us today, her response would likely be, "Merry Christmas!" And the same is my wish for all of you!

I don't know if she was really not a nice person, but my uncle met her several times. He was a former boxer who met her several times, when he lived in Miami. At the time, Ginger was dating Jake La Motta, who owned a club in Miami that my uncle and other boxers frequented.
My uncle said Ginger was mostly cordial, but not overly friendly to him. However, he said Ginger's mother was an incredibly nice, friendly and lovely woman.

case closed sometimes folks are bitter about other folks for whatever reason, and there's always detractors you have to look at the 'big picture' as to how many folks she worked with have felt that way and from my studies (and yes, I have done a LOT of GingerResearch), there's just not too many instances of it

Thanks Ms Olden for posting the cast member's take on the two years working in the Hello Dolly tour. In Ginger's autobiography she made mention of how the casts were professional and hard workers and at the end of a tour gifts or tokens of appreciation and love were highlights
KIG
I can't keep calm, I'm a Gemini!!!

Not to worry Juntenbrown, I spoke with a former cast member of Hello Dolly this afternoon and she completely refuted what Danny may have said. Her take was Ginger was completely marvelous to the cast and they became friends well past the two years she spent with the company. She did not see any nastiness on GR's part with anyone perhaps Danny didn't like a comment or suggestion Ginger may have made to him??
Anyway, those of us who have known Ginger personally can offer up that she was a very nice person, and not the callous "bh" spoken about by the pixie.
