If you're a fan of Kristy and/or V.C. Andrews, I urge you to buy the book "The V.C. Andrews trivia and quiz book", by Stephen J. Spignesi. I was a fan of V.C. Andrews and that's how I became a fan of Kristy, and the book is a real treat, it includes a thorough interview with Kristy where she speaks about her career up to that point (the interview was done when she was filming The Program) and of her involvement in Flowers in the attic.
Some interesting111c things:

The first big screen movie she filmed was William Friedkin's "To Live and Die In L.A." (1985), but her scenes got deleted.

There's a lot of TV credits listed there that aren't in imdb: Dreamfinders (Disney TV movie), appearances in "Archie Bunker's Place", "It's your move", "The Loner" and "Ohara"

She auditioned for the Juliette Lewis part in Husbands and Wives, and was one of the last two considered for the role. It went to Emily Lloyd, who was later fired and the role was re-cast with Juliette Lewis.

She and Louise Fletcher were sent a script of Petals on the Wind (the second V.C. Andrews book), which never got off the ground. Apparently it was "all sex".

She burnt the skirt she wears in Flowers In The Attic when she's entering Foxworth Hall.

She got to meet V.C. Andrews (lucky gal!) and said that she was just how she pictured Cathy

She hates Dream Trap and said that "I didn't know what I was thinking when I made it"

Direct quote from the book:
Question: Were there any memorable moments on the set of Flowers in the attic?
Answer: Well, I do remember setting myself on fire (laughs). I had the flu, and my 2000mom had come out from California and was taking care of me. We were on the set and it was freezing cold. It was October in Boston, and it was freezing! And I am definitely not used to that kind of weather!
I was wearing this skirt that Cathy wears in the movie when all of us first arrive at the mansion. We were on our lunch break and we were in this barn with the caterers, eating our lunch, and I was so cold that I was standing by one of those portable propane heaters to warm up before I walked to the trailers.
So I'm standing there, and I'm rubbing my hands together and blowing in my hands trying to get warm and all of a sudden my skirt catches on fire. And we only had one skirt! (laughs). Apparently, they hadn't doubled it.
Everybody was patting me down trying to put out the fire. I didn't get burned at all, but the skirt was a mess.
The wardrobe people had to pull the skirt together and cut another seam and get the burn marks out of it (laughs)

Hmm. That's interesting. Why did she burn the skirt, though?
I wish for this nighttime to last for a lifetime
