For the record, I was not trying to be "mean" I really was asking a serious question. IMO (and apparently other people as well) she looks a lot older than her years.
I even stated in my original post that "SHE IS NOT EVEN OLD" But still people were replying that she is just getting old so I should give her a break. My goodness, SHE WAS BORN IN 1957. Let's compare:
Christie Brinkley 1954
Susan Sarandon 1946
Rene Russo 1946
Julianne Moore 1960 (only THREE years younger)/ Meg Ryan 1961
My Mom 1950 (not as "pretty" as she once was, but people STILL think she is a lot younger than she is - and she doesn't even take care of her skin the way she should - but she doesn't smoke or drink)
Katie Couric 1957
I could go on but I won't. The above list is of woman who HAVE NOT had surgery.
And for the record, I never said she is hideous. There is just a HUGE difference. She doesn't even look the same. I recently saw her in Bobbies Girl and did not even recognize her. Also, I briefly saw another movie of hers on Lifetime where she plays an old flame() and she didn't look good there either, even though you got the feeling the character was supposed to be very attractive.
If people want to blast me for making a truthful observation, so be it.
By the way, I still haven't even a little clue what englishmuffin1957 is rambling about. (Sorry if I offended you, ms. muffin)

I dont know why I am posting on here but I am.
Resurrecting an old thread.
I don't know what sorts of weed everyone is smoking. She is a 60 year old! She is one hell of a good looking/super hot 60 year old. Have you seen what 60 year old's look like in your real life that surrounds you.
She238 actually doesn't look that different from when she was a top leading lady for a very short period. I remember her from early 80s. You should compare her to Kathleen Turner. There is a very slight difference of age but they were both top box office actresses back in early 80s for a short while. Rachel Ward much shorted than Turner who went on to make quite a few well grossing films. Ward on the other hand seemed to make the conscious decision to get married and focus on married like with Bryan Brown in Australia. She had a pretty short run. I first saw her in Sh5b4arkey's Machine in first run theaters and then a few years later on Thorn Birds and Against All Odds after that. I think the career shot of teetered off in late 80s.
For the record she is a British actress who married an Australian actor and moved to Australia.
Can this really be the end..to be stuck inside of mobile
with the Memphis blues again.

I know this is an old post, but if you're quoting dates, get them right.
Additionally, don't compare anybody's looks to Meg Ryan - nobody knows what Meg Ryan should actually look like now.

What do people mean when they say she probably took some years off her age early in her career? Does that mean she wasn't really born in 1957, but earlier? I know back in the 40s and 50s it was very common for actors especially female) to take some years off their age. It was never anything significant though, it was usually always just 3, 4, 5. I don't really see the point of that, since there's really no physical difference between someone who is 23 and someone who is 27 (for example). But I guess the industry made a year of age seem like ten back then.

She does not look bad, however she does look older then someone born in 1957.
She may have taken a "few years off" when she was starting out; saying she was younger then she actually was. That is nothing unusual for an actress to do

You gotta be kidding. We are NOT discussing how old she is but how old she LOOKS and you don't get to looking like she does without doing something to prematurely age yourself. Like smoking, drinking, partying, baking out in the Sun and perhaps some Bolivian Marching Powder thrown in the mix.
NOTES: The word is "horrible", not "horroble".
This sentence makes no sense: "She didn't lost her light just got more experience". Huh? Do you mean she didn't LOSE her light?
She may be a wonderful person; to that end I have no idea. But for someone not yet 50 she looks OLD and that's that.

I agree; she looks like she partied HARD! Probably didn't take care of her skin when she was younger and then smoked and drank a lot and maybe spent a lot of time in the Sun. My mother is 61 and looks younger than Rachel Ward. Maybe genetics have played some part, but I think too many late nights for too long did the main job of contributing to why she has aged so poorly.
Too bad. She could have aged gracefully.

Anyway, I was born in 1957. I've seen a number of classmates at a 30 year reunion recently and a lot of them look Ol-l-l-l-l-ld. I don't look that old nor does my wife some of us age better than others.
