Recently, it was driving me nuts trying to remember a specific reason why this ubiquitous actor was burnned in my brain. Usually it's an actor who is in either a series I watched regularly, or a movie I watched a number of times. After scrounging to find his name, it still took me a bit more to find the answer three-quarters down the list of his volumn of credits. Why is "Swing Kids" not listed in his "known fors"?? At least in my mind, that movie was HUGE! My husband and I watched it at least a dozen times.
Aside from that, I am always pleased when I see Frank Whaley's face in something I am watching. It means that whatever it is will have at least a shred of genius.

That was exactly my thought. I've seen him in so many things, and he's never less than perfect. There's a unique charm about him I can't explain to myself, but I REALLY like this guy. There's a vulnerability there married to a street-wisdom, and it all somehow works. I'm always glad to see his face, too, in anything, and over the last few days I've seen him in at least six films. Sometimes I'll be about to change the channel (because I'm unimpressed by the film), and then Frank Whaley appears and I leave my remote where it is.

I just saw him in Janie Jones on Cable. Like you said always a shred of genius.
