I just heard this.
I live in Malibu and there is a thrift shop here called the Artifac Tree. The estates of both Eddie and Edward gave large donations of their personal belongings to the Artifac Tree. The Artifac Tree hires and helps homeless people in Malibu. So "Alabama" Phil goes there looking for a new backpack and Winston hands him one. There was something inside but nobody bothered to look at what it was. When Phil got to his destination, (Malibu Creek) he looked inside and there was some kinda bag filled with dirt or something so he threw it away and put his beer inside his new backpack and went about his business. Now a few days later Phil was pokin' around in that backpack and he come across papers sayin' that "these here are the cremated remains of Edward Albert do not throb68w away" as Phil put it. Phil still has the papers and he just went to go get them out the trailer.
Phil just returned and yes it is Edward Laurence Albert
it's an application and permit for disposition of human remains
He was cremated on September 29th at Southland Crematory in San Bernardino
Cremation Number 2258
AARON Cremation & Burial Ser-Mark B Shaw Chapel in San Bernardino
Law requires that these papers accompany the remains to their resting place so someone is in violation of the law.
..only in Malibu

Hi everyone. I am Edward Albert's daughter. I PERSONALLY SPREAD HALF OF MY FATHER'S ASHES IN THE MALIBU OCEAN (the beach below the Point Dume cliffs) ALONG WITH MY MOTHER AND SEVERAL FRIENDS; THE OTHER HALF, WE SPREAD IN THE WATERFALL OF THE CANYON HE HELPED SAVE, WHICH HAS BEEN RENAMED IN HIS HONOR (Escondido Canyon in Malibu, now The Edward Albert Trail and Falls.)
I just stumbled upon this thread and I am so sorry that so many of you have been upset by it. I am also truly regretful that I responded poorly to a myspace message requesting clarification on this understandably distressing issue. I don't recall receiving or responding to this email; I can only conclude that I somehow missed the crucial question and for that I do apologize; following the death of my father, this must have been one of the multitude of things that slipped through the cracks. My most sincere apologies for neglecting my responsibility to set the record straight.
Perhaps a certificate was found (we did donate a number of estate sale items to the Artifact Tree) but I CAN ASSURE EVERYONE THAT HIS ASHES WERE RESPECTFULLY AND LOVINGLY HANDLED.
As far as the cremation establishment boasting that they had his ashes and that they sat on the shelf for months, this is an outright lie and franklyb68 makes me sick to read (I am not saying the person who posted this comment is lying, but whoever told them this was obviously misinformed.)
I appreciate there were so many people who were concerned over this issue. It was bad enough that such a talented, beautiful and luminous man died so young, that he ultimately experienced a career considerably beneath his capabilities and quality; but to hear that his ashes were so tragically mishandled just adds insult to the already injured hearts of all who loved him.
I hope this post will alleviate any remaining concern.
I would like to add that I am determined to continue to honor my father's memory and legacy in the best ways I know how, one of which is a myspace site I set up with some (very rough) fireside family recordings of his music: him singing his own compositions in the last months of his life. They were recorded very casually, but I offer them in the hopes that it can bring some who loved him a little joy. If you're interested, please go to:
www.myspace.com/edwardalbert
It's hard for me to keep up with all of the different accounts, what's being said where, but please write me at his myspace account for best results at this time, if you'd like to be kept in the loop (I am working on a collection of his writings, which are vignettes only, but completely vivid and wonderful; I've posted a few of his writings on the above mentioned myspace blog.) And forgive any slow responses. I don't visit the site that often, as it makes me sad, but I do visit it, as it does my heart good to tend it's small fire and keep the ember lit for others whose lives he touched.
In case you don't know, the daughter replied here on imdb with a very detailed post. She was gracious and appreciative of your attempts to contact her. The story is UNTRUE, but much to her credit, she admitted that the thrift shop may indeed have found the Death Certificate. But she is appalled that false rumors are circulating that the family might have been so negligent with the ashes.

You are wrong on virtually every point, as evidenced by the daughter's very detailed reply here on imdb.

You said that Greensleeves was "mean-spirited," yet the daughter thanked him/her (and others) and very much appreciated being alerted to this rumor. She didn't consider it a "bother" at all.

You thought that it was "sad" that Greensleeves "encouraged others" to contact the daughter, but in reality, it was a good thing. She wrote that she must have missed the initial emails. Had others not also tried, she may never have known about this rumor that the family neglected Edward's ashes.

You asked that we let the topic "rest in peace" ignoring the fact that it would only "die" when the truth is revealed. And that was indeed the case when the daughter provided the facts and disproved the story. And she couldn't have done so had people n5b4ot alerted her to the story.
As the daughter pointed out, few things are worse than implying that the family was somehow negligent with the ashes. Greensleeves helped set the facts straight.
Mean-spirited? What are you talking about? That implies an intention to hurt. Are the police "mean-spirited" when they bring bad news? How about a neighbor who saw your card being vandalized? How is reporting potentially important news "mean-spirited"?
Imagine that you were his child and someone hit you with this???
If it was true, I'd certainly want to know about it. Wouldn't any loving child? I'd certainly want to know the whereabouts of my parent's remains, and it condition. And if there are untrue rumors circulating about, I'd also want to know so that I can decide if further action is needed. Eddie Albert, after all, was a public figure, and as such, has a reputation to maintain, even after death.
Think about this: If a biography was written about your father, would you want to know? Well, what is so different about this rumor? Would you rather have it spin out of control and then somehow reach your children, before you find out about it? Furthermore, the rumor was more about the daughter than the deceased. It implied that the family was negligent with his remains. I'd certainly want to know if people were saying that about me.
Read Greensleeve's post again. Where is the meanness? Nowhere does s/he badger the daughter, or express any agenda other than simply to let her know that this may have happened.
Please just let this whole topic 'rest in peace' and give the
family their privacy.
To me, a large part of privacy is being able to control what information is leaked. Apparently, your concept involves burying one's head in the sand, and simply not knowing what's out there.
