It's true, Mark.
Roth made her choose between him and her daughter, and she sent the girl away.
Of course, Roth was (and maybe still is) a megalomaniac, but that's no excuse for Bloom's actions.
BTW, there is an episode on LAW & ORDER that is loosely based on their relationship. I don't1c84 know the title, but actor Robert Foxworth played the "Philip Roth" surrogate.

This was a woman who abandoned her then 8-year old daughter because she was smitten with author Philip Roth who didn't want the kid around.
