what's sad is you could have said this statement 20 years ago it would have been true.
problem is he is very limited in his comedic abilities, talents.
you'd think since he is a brilliant comedic genius that he would have more comedic range but you rarely if ever see it in his movies

yes this is a sign of his limitations and shortcomings in his acting range. the thign is he's so brilliant as a comedic actor you'd think in his mind he could play a variety of different roles and he i'm sure is sick of playing the same crazy guy roles so you'd think he'd want to do different roles.

we shoudn't have to watch ferrell in a not necessarily comedic movie like kicking and screaming to watch him play a serious or straight man role.
we should be able to watch him play a serious character in a comedy movie.

I agree. As an actor you must be able to adapt. The actors who can play a variety of roles, are the ones people do not get sick of. If you play the same character every time, it shows that you were never gifted to begin with.

well yeah but so, if they are bad movies it doesnt' matter if they are diff than other bad mvoies that he's made.
so basketbll movie, ice skating movie, all suck so doesn't matter what kind of movie they are.
one actor who it almost doesn't matter how good the movie is he finds a way to make it a worth watching is jim carrey. i dont get this from ferrell ever. so most of the blame for his bad movies is on him.

I kind of agree, but there's something I like from him even if I'm not a fan, it's that his comedies have often 'themed' and the themes are rarely repeated.

I agree it was funny back in the day but it's predictable and old now.
