She was poised for greatness back in 2004/2005 (when she had two hit movies in a row, The Day After Tomorrow and The Phantom of the Opera)seriously, everyone was talking about her.
Her film career never really took off after that though. I think Poseidon was a poor career move. She probably did it because she got a huge paycheck, but she had already done a big disaster movie with an ensemble cast. She got a Golden Globe nomination for Phantom! And she followed that up with Poseidon?! Ughshe needed to do different, more serious high profile Oscar bait type of films.
Instead, she did a string of poor film choices and they all basically flopped. Her music career didn't really make much of an impact eitherI do like her music, but I thought she could have been much biggerher debut album was too under the radar. I didn't even know about it until way after it was released.
She rebounded with Shameless. Being the star of a hit show is definitely good. She's definitely in the public eye again.
Unfortunately, she hasn't been nominated for anything, and she doesn't seem to be doing anything really notable outside of Shameless other than some random indies that nobody really knows about
She has a solid career, but I keep thinking she could have been so much bigger. She could be a huge movie starI just wished she played her cards a bit better.

She has a nice little career going for her, it's better than being overrated like the current roster of wannabe actors in the slot!

I think having a career is more important to her than stardom. She definitely deserves more attention than other stars that are currently popular, but I don't think that's what she wants. I don't think it's easy having a life when you're a big movie star. I love her, and so do all of you, so that's what matters right?

I like Rossum and I too expected her to be bigger in films. Her career isn't bad or anything and it's obviously better than 99.9% of people who decide to become actors and she's doing good on cable television but the movie side is terribly disappointing. I'm sure she auditioned plenty, I just think that she had bad luck not snagging any big roles and instead played in a string of flops.
