Cesar was my 3rd cousin though I never got to meet him. My mother's father, Emerson Romero, and Cesar were cousins. Though it wasn't openly discussed back in the day (like with Rock Hudson), he was most certainly gay and was always cast as the dashing bachelor with a beautiful woman on his arm at events to keep up the pretense of being straight. My mother's half sister knew him quite well and agrees.

Just about every famous man, especially in show-biz, is accused of being a homo at some point. It gives people with nothing better to do something to talk about, when they lack substance for a conversation. They can also point and say "SEE????" when they want to feel affirmed in their own predilictions. It would be the same if he were supposed to have been a drunk, a doper, a 1354tax cheat, a communist, or whatever.

Please excuse me for asking, but who was your great-aunt?.was she an actress or in some form of show-biz?.I often wonder what that "general consensus" was based on.I never saw any convincing evidence that he was gay!!!.Just rumors!

It seems like the general consensus is that he was gay. However not sure how open he was about it (at least when he was younger) because according to my family he briefly dated my great-aunt.

Well, either way, it's how he is born, but Cesar was still the same actor regardless, so his orientation shouldn't matter.

Although I haven't read them, interviews that Romero gave while alive have been published in which he openly discusses his gay life. (He requested that they not be published until after his death.)
I wouldn't put too much stock in 40s movie magazine interviewsthey're about as spontaneous and open and honest as a White House press release. In that time period, most movie magazine "interviews" were carefully stage-managed by studio publicity departments to enhance, or protect, their stars' images. Those same movie magazines had articles about Marlene Dietrich's devotion to her family (in real life, Dietrich was a joyous bisexual with a successful open marriage), or stuff about saintly Loretta Young's adoption of a poor orphan (in reality, Young's "adopted" daughter was her own biological child, fathered by Clark Gable and born out of wedlock, but nobody in Hollywood was fooled because the "adopted" child looked EXACTLY like Loretta, except for her huge ears).

Thanks for replying to my post, but that still tells me very little.
Having men friends visiting at your house or sitting with you at a restaurant is not a clear indication that one is gay. I went out to dinner yesterday and saw a group of men sitting a5b4t one table. and I'm a single woman and have woman friends come to my home quite often and GUESS WHATI'M NOT A LESBIAN!
As for people who knew him, I saw a biograghy on him and the close friends on it said they didn't know one way or the other because he was a very private person who never discussed very personal things.

maries-dogs, my mother told me she once lived across street from Cesar's house in Brentwood in 1950's and she said she have seen alot of guys visiting his home. She also was told from others who were close to him that he was gay. One time my grandmother was at a restaurant and saw Cesar at a table with all men including one pretty young man who sat next to him. What does that tell you?

Eye roll. God it's amazing how unsophisticated some on here are.

I will never understand why people insist on believing that Cesar Romero was gay is it because he never married? There are many people who just have no need for marriage.
I think he loved being with women in his lifetime and maybe didn't want to settle for just one.
No man has ever come forth to say he had a fling with Cesar [as they did with Rock Hudson, Liberace and others] No one will ever really know for sure if he was gay or not WHERE IS THE PROOF?

Mr. Romero lived in a very different era. His sexuality probably was fairly well known to his close friends and family and that is far as it went.

I would say 50 percent of the people rumored to be gay in Hollywood aren't but that still leaves a lot of people who are in the other 50 percent. I do believe Cesar Romero was gay but he was extremely discreet and most definately closeted. Did you see that Biography channel special on him. All these very close lady friends of his - all platonic of course - say they presumed he was gay but he never discussed his private life with them no matter how close they were to him. He was by all accounts a nice man and a gentleman to his core.

I, for one, am tired of reading posts by people who have some p[roblem with others inquiring about an actor's sexuality. If it's fair enough to ask whether they were married, it's fair enough to ask about their sexuality.
I'm tired of smug posts from people who act like they are morally superior for being uninterested (if they really are uninterested) to those who
are
interested. It's a valid topic, and only closeted actors with internalized homophobia, or quasi-evil Mel Gibson-types, mind it being discussed.

Why is this an issue? It does not matter who one has sex with. Because he never married which was his choice? He was a wonderful actor just the same.

Well, not exactly a love affair. That implies there was a relationship and emotions involved. From the account I read, Cesar admitted in an interview (after Desi's death) that they worked together once, and he really was interested and attracted to Desi. When they finally met up for the project they were working on, Desi, who was actually considered to be straight and a womanizer, knew that Cesar wanted him. Desi said something to the effect of "We both know what you want, so let's get it over with." Cesar apparently took the opportunity to provide some "attention" to Desi. One time, and it was over. Cesar said they never spoke of it again and were professional to each other throughout the rest of the project.

Not only was he gay but you would never guess who he had a love affair withDesi Arnaz. Yup, our favorite TV daytime Cuban is a bisexual. I wonder who'll turn up next.

Would you say the same about heterosexuals? I doubt you would. Why is bisexuality or homosexuality less innocent than heterosexuality in your mind? It isn't. I have known a lot of sweet and innocent gay or bisexual people and a lot of ''guilty'' heterosexual people.
