Uh, yes they would. And they'd be calling him a gold digger too. There have been plenty of examples of young men marrying (preying on) older women, especially older wealthy women. No one was congratulating these women on marrying a younger man either.
This is a sexist guy thing and society is changing enough to start to condemn rather than praise cradle robbers. -

I am not sure that I would be considered a "defender", but I think he is just a scapegoat. Woody Allen and Morgan Freeman have MUCH more "icky" situations, yet they are still embraced by Hollywood and get work.
DH is shunned as if he drugged a young girl at a party and had his way with her
Oh wait, no that would cause all if Hollywood to pronounce their love and respect for him -

Yeeeeeah, Woody Allen's situation is just as creepy. Moving from "father figure" to "lover" is completely inappropriate for the boundaries it crosses. I mean, more power to them, they're happy, they've stayed together, and it works for them. The same thing can be said of Morgan Freeman and his stepdaughter. However, the justification that she was 21 and not 16 doesn't really do much for the situation presented. In what father's eyes does ANY daughter ever REALLY grow up beyond 10 years old? (I'm not speaking from experience, as I have no children, but this is how I would probably feel if I were at the child rearing stage in my life I doubt that my tune will change by the time I'm 35).
It really is weird though, the demonization that DH has been getting over his marrying the 16 year old. Maybe they have issues, maybe they don't, maybe they really love each other, maybe it's a sham publicity stunt, but that's between them, and the controversy is really something the bored media fixated on because they like to judge everything from a holier-than-thou ceramic throne (read: toilet). Sure, CS is probably an attention whore, but the media doesn't have to feed it.
Anyway, I digress. Back to the demonization. I saw a meme today that really struck a chord on this subject. It depicted a whole lot of Twihard Moms holding signs and going into a frenzy over the Twilight guys - all who are depicting high schoolers or boys/men significantly younger than them, and are often topless. Hollywood feeds this, and modern society glorifies this. Yet, if the situation were turned around and it were a bunch of 50 year old men fiending over and lusting after 17 year old girls, it's "creepy" and the FBI would have been called. -

But I guess you might be right, just look at the list of sickos- there's that ex cabinet member who thought it was just fine to kill the Libyan ambassador and the other heros, oh wait Hilary isn't a Republican, well then how about that sicko president who molested every woman he could get his hands on, oh wait Bill Clinton wasn't Republican either, how about that drunk senator who killed his sex-slave aka secretary- oh these are probably too many Dumocrats and is breaking your poor feeble mind. And just to be up to the moment, as embarrassing, crass, and just plain stupid as Trump is (I'd never vote for him) he's a Rhodes Scholar compared to any dumocrat. As for the original post and DH, it's a social oddity (I didn't even know it was Toombs) gross and who really cares.

LOL! Who in the crazy world says this TOTAL creep and criminal is a CHRISTIAN??? You're not born a Christian, you have to make a decision, and if you say you ARE a Christian, there should be evidence of that. This is child abuse - he's guilty and her parents are. It's sad for the child (and yes, if you are under 18, you're a child. Most paperwork (ie, buying a house) can be filled out as an adult at 21 only. The drinking age in the US has been 21 for many years.
The sad thing is that there will be fall-out. They're happy?!? She's just dazzled by Hollywood111c and the ADULTS in this situation did not protect her. She needed parental guidance and instead seems to have a Mother who would rather whore her daughter out so she could meet famous people. It's horrible and wrong and if you don't see that, then i understand even more why this country is in such a morals mess. Shame in all of you who think this is OK. This has nothing to do with what political party anyone is in! It's about a child who was not protected. The end. -

There is a huge difference.
A teacher influences' a person's development so much, that they could easily manipulate the person into a sexual relationship.
This is the same reason why it's a no-go on dating a psychologist, they just have too much influence over your mind.
These two didn't have a relationship like that. They were/are both consenting adults (16 year olds are adults, clueless, but still adults), with no apparent manipulation involved (at least on Doug's end, wouldn't rule out her mother).
Plus, marriage, especially for a celebrity, hasn't been a lifelong commitment for a long time. -

They met online similar to how some couples meet on match.com, or eharmony, but there were NO sexual talk between them online, & they just fell in love through their word s, I bet Doug & Courtney have a deep soulful connection than most couples their ages! And now Courtney will be 18, & they've been married over a year! I WISH Them all the Best!

Besides all the valid points everyone has already made, lets not put aside the fact that it has been well established that the frontal lobes of the brain which is the center for judgment and planning don't even go through final stages of development until a person is in their 20s!! And if anybody doesn't believe me, simply google the beep you'll get a thousand sites confirming this! It's common knowledge!
My question is, how in the hell are the parents of this girl
AND

allow her to go all over TV and the internet making herself out to look like this out of control promiscuous little whore, while professing to be such a good little Christian? Are you kidding me?!!! The only thing I can hope is this is a hoaxshe's not really 17- wasn't 16 when they met and married and we've all been punk'd for whatever sick reason. If not, then her sick fvck parents along with that sick fvck DH, should be locked up and their respective keys discarded!!!
I used to like Doug Hutchison as an actor in movies and television, even though he mostly played roles of characters that were unsavory. I always thought he was superb in his work. Now it just makes me sick and utterly disgusted to look at my screen if he's displayed on it. Sorry, that's how I feel.

I've noticed that and it's a shame for him. Whatever this is, it's all going to come down on his head unfortunately. I don't feel sorry for him, he made his own bed but if she truly is/was that young, she's a victim.

I don't get the hate people have for Doug Hutchison. He's a terrific actor, & so what that he is married to a young girl. Elvis "dated" Priscilla at 14, & John Stamos banged a teenage girl(just google the news about it) yet everyone turned turned a blind eye about.
Doug looks happy & in love with this young woman, & I say good for him! Once she is "legal" next month, it's not going to matter anymore! I hope he does make a comeback because I think he's a great actor, but Hollywood sucks in general anyways. Doug had a good run in Hollywood, so I wish him all the best!
