What is considered pedophelia is subject to cultural norms and modern times. Some cultures around the world, a girl becomes a woman when she begins menstruating (around age 12). And even in North American and European culture going back 120 years, same thing. A female was ready for marriage and child bearing, and considered a woman after menstruation started. Adolescence is a 20th century invention, and now people's 'children' are remaining at home, living off their parents until they are 35, so this 'extended childhood' notion has come back to bite people in the butt.
BTW, I am writing this as a female who WAS considered to have been sexually abused because at 14 I was caught having a 32 year old boyfriend. There was no forcing or manipulation on his part and I was a fully consenting adult. -

on top of that she had her parents permission; which for some states would allow marriages even younger with parental consent, Jerry Lewis married a 13 year old (legally) with her parents consent ~ and it was his cousin.

With many true pedophiles and/or predators, there is a preferred age range. So I suppose it is even possible that Courtney became too "old" for Doug. However, the woman who worked with them on a couples therapy reality show said it seemed to her he would go for women his own age if released by Courtney. That would tend to suggest that he is not a pedophile.
It is interesting that DH never married before, but he did seem rather baby-faced as I remember him, not that that has anything to do with it, necessarily, but perhaps he just could never find anyone on the same wavelength before. Oops, I just discovered, he has been married and divorced, apparently twice before. Well, how old those girls were at the times of marriage might tell the tale. -

When he first saw pics of Courtney, he assumed that she was in her mid-20s, and was shocked to later learn that she only 16! Maybe he should have put a stop to their relationship once he found out her real age, but he already fallen in love with her, and was foolish to believe that she truly loved him, but now, I believed she was only in for the fame! Hopefully, Doug will next date someone 18 and up!
