Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Sandy Dennis

    ecargalel — 18 years ago(January 28, 2008 06:03 AM)

I've noticed quite a few posts mentioning Sandy's wonderful autobiography. Does anyone else agree that it's high time this brilliant and talented actress received the full-on, high-tone celeb bio she deserves? Many of her co-stars have been over-biographed to the point that there is nothing left to really tell.
I've thought of undertaking the project myself, if only to bring many fascinating and widely unknown facts about Miss Dennis to light.
Is it possible that anyone on here has heard of any real plans by a well-known author to work on this?

I am seriously tempted now to try and work on thisjust a chance to talk to some of those who were closest to her and find out what they think really made her tick

I hope you do ecargalel. I would be among the first in line to get my copy!

I've got a footnote for your book - in the late 60's I was in an old book store in Cleveland. A lady walked in the door and just lit the place up. All she did was say hi to someone and walk to the back office, but her presence made heads turn. I didn't know who it was at first, but soon remembered that Sandy Dennis was in town to do a play. That was a 5 second dose of star power, so different from the characters I've seen her play!

I don't think that her Mother is still alive. her brother, however, and her niece were both interviewed for the documentary "Confessions of a Superhero." The interview was for the section on Christopher Dennis (Superman) who claims Sandy is his mother. Both denied this to be true. I see this whole arc in the life of Sandy Dennis, surfacing over a decade after her death, as facinating and would make a quite interesting chapter in your proposed book.

Sandy's mother, has indeed passed away. There's even a comment at Sandy's page on Find a Grave (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=2622) from someone who took care of Yvonne during her last days in a nursing home. Apparently, she was a very proud parent to the end, always talking about and showing pictures of her daughter.
I was planning to work in some of the controversy over Christopher and such, thinking that, since it is a part of the story in the end. Also want to look deeply into Sandy's own story, which many people who knew her now disagree with or disbelieve, about a lost pregnancy in the mid-60s. This may be from where the man takes his jump-off. Oh well, guys. Any more comments, ideas, let me know.

I've only recently discovered Sandy Dennis; most accidentally in Parents and The Fox. Wow, what a spirited actress; she's acting but somehow she isn't. I'd certainly be interested in reading about her.
