    Aja IMO.
Just watched High Tension, loved it, so many stylistic similarities to Wolf Creek, but both are great horror movies.
I wish Aja could do what he does without using so much blood. It makes things comical. Hostel on the other hand was a lot funnier, because the torture was excessive to the point of comedy.
Maybe it's because I'm Australian that I can relate to Wolf Creek better if only Greg McLean could put out another classic he'd be up there with the great horror directors.
In any case, it's excellent that Horror is enjoying such a renaissance. There's been too many slasher movies lately that don't have that edge-of-your-seat rawness that makes for a great horror.

Aja is much more talented than Roth. Indeed; Hostels arn't scary at all. It's just sadism and perversion. Aja has talent and taste, his direction is pure.

The two make entirely different movies. High Tension is fabulous, but is it really that original of an idea. Is Cabin Fever really that original of an idea. Niether are, but I have to give the nod to Cabin Fever. Next up, for each of them: a remake for Aja, which is great, better than the original and probably the best remake of the bunch for the major films. For Roth: Hostel. A very good film that showed (surprisingly) a lot of maturity. Next there's P2 and Hostel: Part II. Not sure where to go with those other than they are very different filmmakers and writers. Cheers.

Cabin Fever- Stupid and not scary
Hostel- OK, but not enough gore, it was very overrated
High Tension- I didn't like it that much, Hostel was better.
Hills Have Eyes- The best horror film of the new millenium (spelling?)
I have to say Aja, takes the cake but only because of the Hills Have Eyes

I love them BOTH!! They both make great horror movies that are different from each other but they all have the good stuff, blood, gore, and parts that freak you out. I don't think they should be compared they both rock, I own all the movies listed in this post and I have to say that I love the hills have eyes, and I love the Hostel movies. All I have to say is BRING IT ON I am ready for some more great horror from both of these directors!!

no, it was just eli roth. it was just a "tarantino presents"
not much of a fan of eli roth due to the fact that his films are there to primarily gross you out. some may like that, but i'm into the horror films to 111ctry to be scared over being grossed out. just my opinion.

Aja is better than Roth,of course.Hostel are boring and Cabin Fever are good but not is High Tension (one of the best european horror films)and The Hills have eyes is a absolutely masterpiece. Roth is not bad director but Aja is a genius.

Both of them are brillant. But there films are quiet different. Aja makes survival movies and he's the best to do it. Eli roth makes gory horror disgusting movies and he's the best for it. However, it doesn't mean that aja's movie are not gory. They are not as gory as eli roth's movie but they are more violent and brutal . The hills have eyes and high tension are so sick.

Let's look at it this way
                          Cabin Fever VS. High Tension
Cabin Fever by a mile. High Tension was weak, and had a terrible ending.
The Hills Have Eyes VS. Hostel
The Hills Have Eyes without a doubt. This film shows more strength and has far better characters/ better scares/ better story.
As directors, I'd say Aja is far more talented at setting up tension. However, he lacks the originality that I think that Eli Roth has.

There's no need to even contemplate this question. Aja is better, period. You really cannot say, "better." Aja is an outstanding filmmaker, but Eli Roth is just bad. He's just a kiss ass director who thinks the ideal horror film is to insert 75% nudity and 25% violence. Why even put Roth on the same scale with Aja?

I dunno dude, com5b4paring High Tension to Cabin Fever is not even a competition. Cabin Fever is a vastly superior film, especially since it was Roth's first.

Hahahaha. No way dude. Cabin Fever was amatuer as all hell. High Tension was definitely better. At least it had gore. All Cabin Fever had was that fingering scene. High Tension's ending wasn't even that bad and the Hills Have Eyes was damn good. Can't say the same about Hostel. Let's just hope Roth doesn't ruin Cell.

you're kidding right? lets see a sam raimi wannabe horror/comedy that is at best only amusing and with unused potential next to an extremely tense, dark, original and frightening piece of work that only really fails with the twist ending but up until then remains one of the scariest and tense horror films to ever hit the screens - ill admit i thought the twist was unneeded but everything else about haute tension was brilliant - cabin fever was fun but ultimately nothing special
