Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Claude Akins

    asteve2-1 — 19 years ago(October 09, 2006 03:37 PM)

I always thought we would have Claude Akins. I wonder if his family appreciated him like his fans.
I remember him in a guest tv role he had in the 80's. His face was porous and puffy simular to one who is recovering from alcoholism. Did he have a problem w/alcohol?
When he died was his family there for him?

      Hello asteve,
I thought would send you the answers to your presumptuous questions. I am his grandson and I know that our family was very supportive of him and was naturely by his side during his battle with stomache cancer. He never battled alcohol as serious as you seem to think, and from what I can remember from my childhood he was an amazing family man. If you have any other questions feel free to email me back.

        Hello!
I worked with your grandfather and was a good friend of his from the age of 19 till his death over 20 years later. I worked on set, did some golf pics and parties, I was a still photographer at the time.
Your grandfather was a warm, generous, caring human being, who on set always had an open door policy. He cared about everyone on the set no matter what ones status was. If there were problems between crew then he wanted to know about it and get it worked out.
Claude did not have a drinking problem, he was hooked on golf and he liked his morning swims. He loved life and people. He was very proud of his family and loved them dearly.
        Enjoy Always,

Where are the actors like Claude today? In 40 or so years, I have never heard a negative word from anyone who knew or worked with him. Where have the Claude's gone?

I am a huge Western fan and have always loved him in the many Westerns he appeared in. Rio Bravo is one of my favorites but he appeared in so many I can't even begin to name them. I love his voice and acting style. He is one of the actors I would have loved to sit and talk too.
