I had the pleasure of meeting him twice and is one of the most wonderful guys I ever met. I never understood why he was always typecast as the bad guy

AH!.. well.. i suppose thats a better reason than people not wanting him in their movies or shows. i feel a little better.. i guess however i do miss seeing him randomly in things. i get such a kick out of that sudden seizure of recognition and the unstoppable urge to scream "LOOK ITS DUKAT! MARC ALAIMO!" like a crazy person no matter where i am
whats really crazy is that when i saw him(not at first but the 2nd or 3rd time) on DS9 i had a similar reaction when i suddenly realized he was the soldier from Total Recall.. even as a bit character hes quite memorable.

There's no question ds9 wouldn't be half the show it was without him!

I agree - the character of Gul Dukat had more depth than any other, and Marc Alaimo was well cast in the role; he also seemed to be having the most fun with his character. I'm glad that his pension, and whatever residuals he gets from DS9, has allowed him to retire. Seems like he'd bb68e a great guy to have a beer with.

I was watching "The Wounded" on ST:TNG tonight on BBC. I thought he looked so familiar and decided it might have been Christopher Meloni from L&O:SVU. But no, the two men are 20 years apart. Wonderful actor, Marc Alaimo is. As far as not seeing him much either on stage or at the conventions, when a person loses their hearing, sometimes they withdraw from a social life. It would be definitely hard to hear from the stage and even one-to-one in a noisy situation would be difficult. This invisible disability is tough to live with.

A truly fantastic actor, his portrayal of Gul Dukat in DS9 was outstanding and the show definitely wouldn't have been the same without him, I honestly doubt anyone else could have brought as much depth to the character as he did. I'm just watching old episodes of Knight Rider and I spotted him in the 5th episode of the first season, I knew it was him right away and it filled me with joy, it truly is a pleasure to watch his work and I wish him all the best in retirement, but secretly hope he will appear in TV shows or movies from time to time.

I've long won5b4dered about this question of why he hasn't acted since DS9 on TV or film. Everyone's echoing my high opinion of him, and it's nice to see an answer. Sounds like a very humble guy, in terms of life style, anyway. Best "Star Trek" villain/secondary character of all time. I wish the DS9 DVDs had more of him explaining all the thought that must have gone into portraying such a complex character; I can't emphasize how amazing he was; it's been 22 years since DS9 began and I'm still amazed by him.
