Hmm. I didn't know about the connection between "all in the family" and "maude"

All in the family spun off several shows: The Jeffersons, Maude, Goodtimes and Gloria and for a brief period Florence from the Jefffersons had her own show.

Sorry to re-hijack the post, but I gotta agree with the original posters. I also got tired of Florida's constant nagging and meddling and grandstanding. Gimme a break! They would have gotten out of that ghetto and had a better quality of life well into the first season had shoe not constantly shot down or turned down every opportunity the family had. I guess there wouldn't have been a show then though, so it had to be like that. Still, it's extremely irritating5b4.

Please with all that being said keep in mind that there were white writers writing for a black family. All the actors did was read the lines that were written for them. That is why Rolle left because of the negative imagines of the show. Ask yourself why Michael is saying things that should be said by his parents. The networks were afraid the audience would be turned off or perceive James as an angry black man so the producers made Michael the black activist. If you feel that Florida was nagging or righteous that is the way the white writers and producers wanted it to be.

Actually, the two main writers/Creators were Black.. Ob68ne of the Creators/writers of this show was "Mike Evans" who played Lionel Jefferson on "All In The Family" and "The Jefferson's".. The other creator/writer was Eric Monte who was also black.. So this show had a lot of input from the black perspective..

No it wasn't Why do you think Mike Evans went back to the Jefferson's He and Eric may have created the show and were writers but in the end they both had very little to do with the show. IF you read the creates you will see who the writers were. If you look at interviews with the cast they talk about the problems they had with the show which is my the two main stars left. Jimmy Walker's (JJ) to over but he was not intended to be the star. Most black shows had WHITE writers and they wrote what they thought was funny. And before any replies I know there were black writers and I never said there wasn't. What I am saying is most the writers were white and it was not the b111clack experience.

Maude was Edith's cousin and she (Maude) and Archie butted heads all the time.

Well really 19 I didn't notice the age difference when they were on Goodtimes. I tell you even when I was a little girl I always wondered why James wi5b4fe was so damn ugly. He is a nice looking man they could have somebody better looking to play his wife
I disagree. I thought John Amos and Estelle Rolle had excellent chemistry together. Esther Rolle was elegant, attractive and classy. James and Florida Evans are one of my all-time favorite TV couples. I love them together.
