Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Tom Atkins

C'mon, this guy is great !!!!
Only for the role he played in Maniac Cop and Night of the Creeps he should've gained popularity.
He tried out in the big league ( Striking Distance ) but I guess he'll never receive the fame and fortune he deserves

I agree. He had charisma in those roles as well as others. I enjoyed his role in "The Fog" as well. He is underrated. I wish "Night of the Creeps" would hurry up and get a DVD release.

I also agree that Tom Atkins is a very underrated actor and should of gotten more parts in bigger movies.
But the ones he did star in are cult classics and I love watching them over and over and over again.
Lots of people hate "Halloween 3 Season of the Witch." just because Michael Myers isn't in it, But remember guys it was John's Carpenter's idea to made a third film based off another story and I for one love it.
I'm sure people would of liked it better if it was just called "Season of the Witch." and didn't have Halloween in the title. I mean Tom was doing a great job as the leadthe plot was awsome and so wasn't the endinghim pleading on the phone for them to stop playing itthen it cuts to black with him screaming "STOP IT!"
I loved the Fog, Tom looked kind of young in it to, Him and Jamie Leigh Curtis set off sparks and I loved the part when their laying in bed and he asks her name.
He had so many great lines and seemed to be having a blast while doing itmy favorite shot with him in it is when the fog starts going away and the six people slowly walk out of the church and the little kid says"look it's going away!" Great music.
One of my all time favorites that Tom was in is Escape from New YorkI know what you all must be thinking, He did have a small part but didn't he look cute!
In the scenes he was in he lit it up and seemed to just breeze through without breaking a sweatit sure was a treat to see him!
My favorite part in the movie is towards the end when Snake walks up to the Prez and asks how he feels about all the people that died for him and the Prez brushes him off and acts like a total jerkyou can see Tom standing next to Snake when this happenes and just watch the look on his faceyou can tell he knows it's wrong and deep down inside Snake isn't that bad of a guy(To bad he didn't return for Escape from L.A, But then again he must of quit after seeing how the Prez acted! lol)
And yes TimescreammerI do think Tom's cute for an older guy!
"Hi, I'm Johnny Knoxville, and we're about to test my Rocket Skates!"

You can count me in as a massive Tom Atkins fan. He's terrific in both "Night of the Creeps" and "Maniac Cop." He's likewise excellent in "The Fog," "Halloween III: Season of the Witch," and "Lethal Weapon." Moreover, I met Tom Atkins at a horror convention a short while back and talked to him. I'm happy to report that he's a really nice, friendly and polite guy who greatly appreciates his fans.

Underrated is an understatement. He was neglected and ignored. He's become a hidden weapon of Hollywood cinema.

There was no bio for Tom Atkins until I came along and wrote one for the man. He certainly deserves a bio on the IMDb. I think that confirms your claim that he's seriously underrated right there.

I don't think Tom is underrated I know it! He seems to be typecast as the cop quite a bit, but he always brings charm and personality to his roles. He was great in the John Carpenter films, and it's too bad he never received more credit for his terrific work.
