I'm currently watching the repeats of Buffy on Sky One. I had been left with the feeling that the Riley character was pants. As I watched series 4 I realised that he was great then I watched series 5. The Riley character is a nothing in that series. Now I can understand why I was so relieved when he left.
If you watch Marc Blucas play Riley in series 4 he is superb, but when the charcter is being got rid of in the next batch, you don't like him anymore and basically I guess that is what you are supposed to feel.
Don't dump on the guy for the character he was playing. -

he so isnt!!
he is a good looking actor,
and the reason people didnt like him was because he wasnt angel.
he has had an impressive film career since leaving buffy.
so will marc blucas/riley haters just leave him alone! -

I'm a big fan of Marc's. I've seen a number of his films simply because he's in them. He is a very talented man who doesn't seem to get the respect he deserves. Okay, we get it. You didn't like Riley, but that doesn't mean it has anything to do with Marc's acting. I thought Marc was a talented guy from his first episode of Buffy TVS, and, apparently, a number of casting agents and directors feel the same. He left the show in the middle of season 5, and look at how much work he's gotten. Even a small part in a John Sayles movie is a coup for an actor of his age and experience.
I know you're giving him a compliment, Virgiricci. I've heard/read comments about Marc having grown a lot as an actor, but I feel like that implies that he was lacking in some way to begin with and I don't believe that he was. I think he's grown in the way new experiences in this case, acting roles cause us all to grow even just a little. But Marc's was wonderfully gifted man to begin with.
And if you get a chance, try to catch him in "Prey for Rock and Roll". Whether you love or hate him as Riley, you'll never think of Marc the same way again.

I am defintiely not a Riley fan. Okay, it's true that I disliked him at the start of Season Four because he wasn't Angel (and cos of his hair cut) but he grew a little on me until episode three of Season Five, 'The Replacement'. Why would he dump something like that on Xander? After that, he went way downhill and his reappearance in 'As You Were' in Season Six was just annoying. Now I look back on him fondly has a silling sod who really didn't mean to do anything wrong but was quite stupid and helped Spuffy develop properly. He also showed how good other relationships on the show were (Xander/Anya) so I do not hate him in the least. But none of that really has anything to do with Marc Blucas. I've seen him in other movies and he's fine. I can't comment on him as a person, but in interviews he seems nice enough.

he's a good actor, but in pleasantville all he does was kiss and smile. of course, he act pretty. what is with him playing as commandoes? buffy and we were soldiers. whatever it is, he looks darn hot in those military uniform drools

I don't know Marc very well, but I was a senior in high school when he was a freshman, and ran into him at a wedding last year. He was very nice, and yes, intelligent. I asked him for an autograph for my niece, although it was a little embarassing, and he was very gracious about it. I'll be rooting for him to show all those Riley haters what Marc can do with a juicy role!

Well everyone is intitled to have an opinion, but I think it's pretty lame to start a topic just to put someone down. Especially since Marc seems to be such a nice and intelligent guy. He certainly doesn't deserve this. Maybe I could have accepted it, if you had started a thread on the "Actors/actresses" board, asking which actors people think are good or bad and had some good arguments to back your opinion up, but this is just stupid. And judging from your name and your resent posts, I assume you're a fan of Arnold and Keanu. And if my assumption is right, it gets even harder if not to say impossible for me to take your "worst actor ever" statement seriously, 'cause I wouldn't exactly put either of those two guys in the "brilliant actor category".

well i guess each to his/her own, and ur entitled 2 ur own opinion
but do u HAVE 2 bag riley?
Xander: Hey, Riley! What's the (imitates Riley's hand signal) all about?
Riley: It means yell real loud so the vampires who don't know we're coming will have a sporting chance.
Xander (to Willow): See now he's all mad and sarcastic.
