That does play into it, but we have shipped too many companies and jobs overseas due to other countries' tariffs, unfair trade practices and currency manipulation. They've been screwing us for decades. We will now start to bring these companies and jobs back to the USA.
Furthermore, we need to have a
robust manufacturing base
. If we get into a conflict with China, how are we going to be successful if we depend on them for steel, aluminum, timber, drugs and other hard goods?

So what do I think you should do? Not put blanket tariffs on the entire world. Easy.
And if you do feel one or two countries have unfair tariffs, negotiate with them. But maybe not use penguins to calculate the difference next time.

More opinions. From one who thinks he knows what he's talking about.
What's most likely to happen is some countries will cave and eliminate tariffs, others won't like Japan and probably EU and other large companies will manufacture MORE in America. If we get EU and China to drastically cut tariffs this is a HUGE win and probably the best thing ANY President has ever done for this country.
China will play games, but their economy isnβt strong enough to beat us in the end on tariffs. Theyβll do destructive stuff to begin with, but again long-term they canβt do it. They need us; we donβt need them. The EU will probably cave fairly quickly.
Some say the stock market crashed. It's not a βcrash." Poor choice of words, and incendiary. Do you know who owns stock in this country? The wealthiest 2%. Also held by retirement plans but those are not near-term payouts. So essentially itβs βborrowingβ from the 2% to bring down the deficit, chase money into treasuries to pay down debt, and reduce interest rates. Which benefits the 98%. That's an awesome plan, friendo.
Within two weeks, every country that is mouthing off right now will cancel their tariffs against America, and Trump will cancel ours against them. Prices everywhere will drop like a rock, and unemployment will be a thing of the past. China has a 300 billion dollar trade surplus with us. They cannot afford to lose us as a trading partner. There are several countries that can take their place. And Trump has probably already started those negotiations in private, so the commie press can't interfere.
Yeah, those are opinions. Print them out and thumbtack them on the wall in your office.

just wanna revisit this as the EU just got rejected by Trump for offering zero for zero tariffs.
Turns out he dont want that, he just wants tariffs.
And oh, yeah the market keeps on crashing btw. We'll see how the tariff war with China is going to go, no one is backing down.
