I really hate when people say, in response to someone asking if someone's gay, "even if this person is gay then who cares?!" Um. Obviously the point of the post wasn't "Ew, I hope he's not gay because that would be gross" It was simply somebody inquiring about his sexual orientation the same as someone asking "Is he dating anyone?" or "Is he Italian?" Yes, I agree that it's their business but you don't have to flip out on a person for being curious about something. It's exactly the same as asking what religion they are or what heritage they are. It is their business but people have the right to inquire about this stuff. If the person being inquired about doesn't wish to share the information then that's perfectly fine, but the inquiry itself was in no way offensive or bad.
Seriously, pick your fights. Don't just assume that every time someone asks if someone else is gay it's to offend them. Sometimes people are just curious. How else are they supposed to find things out unless they ask questions? -

Well while I do agree that asking questions is the best way to find out thing, so far every board I've been on that asks this question turns incredibly homophobic and even can lead to horribly offensive statements (And I love 'The Aristocrats" so my tolerance for offencive is fairly high) and once I read someone saying that they'd never watch a certain actors movies because of the chance they might be gay.
I admit I should pick my fights, this is one that I picked (Possibly prematurely but hey)
Oh by the way I wasn't flipping out, I was making a simple statement, that being gay doesn't make you any less talented which a lot of people imply with those kind of comments (Not everybody, but enough to be worrying)

" the inquiry itself was in no way offensive or bad."
If one wishes to
volunteer
such information about oneself, that is entirely one's own business. But it is
not
someone else's place to ask. Sorry to be so disagreeable,
xxrhoddyxx
, but such inquiries
can
be offensive in the extreme.
What business is it of ours?
Consider this: The bigots among us have used issues of race, ethnicity, nationality, religious faith,
and sexual orientation
as excuses to divide humanity for centuries make that millennia and to exclude, mistreat, even
dehumanize
the people on the "wrong" side of such divisions.
That
is why some people find these questions so offensive.
A show of hands, please?
All those who believe that seeing someone's image on a movie or TV screen gives them the right to pry into the intimate details of the actor's private life. -

(depending on the context in which it's asked)
The context in which I usually find it asked is best described as "nosy" and sometimes "what-I-don't-know-I'll-make-up-and-publish-anyway".
"Dr. Laura" types make me furious.
On that we can agree! They infuriate me, too. (Ever notice that she consistently sidesteps the question of just what field her "Doctorate" is in?) I find more logic in Dr. Seuss. -

It's just a question, it's not passing judgement or anything, and I'd hardly call it "prying into the intimate details of someone's life".
Too many people
do
use that to pass judgement. 7ecThey use it to separate, to demean, to disrespect, and even to dehumanize anyone who isn't on the same side of the line they've drawn. -

Then that makes it conclusive!
Because no straight guy ever divorced his wife.
Right?
Really: You seem to want very much for him to be gay. Is there
any
evidence you would accept that he's not gay? -

He is neither straight or gay he reproduces via cell devision! for the love of god people he has a "twin" You'd think you'd be able to see the truth and realize that there will soon be four of them if not 8 by now!
