Honestly, who knows where it will all end Barberry. It seems many countries worldwide aren't happy about Trump and although I didn't vote for our PM Malcolm Turnbull I agree it must be awful for him at the moment. I just read this: something about Trump's next EO target could be the LGBT by giving wider control to religious organisations. Wonder if that includes Scientology? With all of the negative revelations from former members lately, I think some were kind of hoping this 'philosophy' was on the way out. How come the 'thetan' rubbish they teach is a religion anyway?
Here is what I read about the LGBT

Robyn,
will miss chatting with you too
sending hugs and love to each of you who shared what you knew about Gerry with me
because I came late to liking Butler, in my cinematic heart he'll always be the Stranger in Dear Frankie and Johnny Donne in The Jury and yes, we will always have Sparta!
he just signed to do Snow Ponies- an action thriller sounds interesting.
Liam Neeson signed for Hard Powder another snow based film and Renner's Wind River is set against the snowy mountains of Wyoming- actually Utah where it was film-
geez what's with all the snow?? haha!!
Does anyone think perhaps Mr Trump could have anything to do with it? Supposedly some angst between him and the owner of Amazon or something? He does seem hyper sensitive to negative comments anywhere in public forums and hasn't there been mention that he wants to change libel laws or
yes that had crossed my mind too. Telling the media to shut up seems very unpresidential
take care of yourself, be good, stay safe and see ya soon (at the cinema watching Butler making us happy indeed)

Where did Evil and Robin go?
I'm not sure about Evil. I miss her too.
Robin/RRuin was here for a long time and only recently went MIA. Last time I chatted with her she was hard at work writing/editing/submitting.
I always hope that when folks go missing from here, that means they're too busy with great things in their lives to come around. -

Thanks Annie, it's also been so great having you here and keeping us informed with new Gerry info and with your special insight into behind the scenes.
Hey Smack, it's really good to see you here again. Yes, these boards sure were a riot back in the day, some of those trolls were absolutely brilliant and so very funny. I read over at JJ and sometmes a few of the intelligent, funny posters there do seem a bit familiar and I wonder if they are actually ex pats from this board.
LOLOL! I am so blind. I read Annie's post as Gerry starting a new movie called 'SHOW' Ponies and thought yaay Gretchen would finally have a Gerry movie to get excited about! I actually love watching movies filmed in the snow. The Revenant and The Grey were extra special for me. -

The Revenant and The Grey were extra special for me.
and for me too. The Grey will live in my cinematic heart and I'll remember The Revenant when I'm an old lady!!!!!!!!!!!
You7ec are most welcome. I had a good time with so many of you.
if you want to exchange email addresses PM me while we still can!
I read over at JJ when I can but a few posters remind me of high school! And those terrible cliques. Mean Girls never cease.
I posted a couple of times but one of the women felt I was dissing Butler- I try to be fair regarding him. I know so little about him and quite frankly don't care who he is scr*****!!!!
He does strike me as perhaps having loved someone once, gave her all of himself and she either did not reciprocate or he failed to tell her how he felt, convincing himself he's only beep How else to explain those silly embarassing PDA's? I saw a few pictures last Jan-Febish at work while reading something about Renner!
One of my favorite books So Long See You Tomorrow says it all so long see you tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Checking in, if anyone remembers meI was AKA RandomBrunette.
When I see a TV show or movie that is new to me, I always check out the IMDb boards to read comments. I will miss that. I hang out on Previously.TV for their boards - particularly for Game of Thrones. The forums are heavily moderated but still a lot of fun.
I too miss the good old days when the Gerry boards were on fire.
Years ago, Evil and I met each other at a couple of POTO events. We are Facebook friends. She is doing well! Corvus AKA little_red_corvette is another FB buddy - she is still creative and funny and cool.
I'm also FB friends with a couple of other Gerry board postersbut I can't recall their board names, because it has been so long since they posted here.
Robyn, Sirius, barberryand many othersI will miss you.
End of an era!

I remember you well Random and thanks for the info about Evil and others. It truly is the end of an era and I'm feeling really sad about it. It has been more than 10 years for me here and it will be like losing old friends. I also like to check IMDB for TV and movie info and to check the comments when I'm curious about any new show. I'm hoping all of the petitions will have some impact with the PTB.

Robyn, are you on Facebook?
Like Random, I have several friends on Facebook whom I met via online forums. Most are from the Gerry days, but I think I have an Adam Lambert friend there (I had almost forgotten that phaseand how I met her!), and one dates WAY back to my first foray into message boards, a Fox board for that old reality show, Paradise Hotel.
After awhile, our online buddies become just as dear of friends to us as those from real life. A few of mine I've also met in real life. I often forget that our friendships started out online drooling over some actor!
If anyone wants to be friends on Facebook, definitely send me a PM! -

I don't use or understand Facebook all that much Gretchen, except to follow a few links we've had here. I mostly intereact with family there, but not very often. It would be nice though to have an alternative place where we could all still talk about Gerry's career. I just read that there is the 'Black Sails' Facebook page that BS fans could possibly check out as a message board alternative. Some are saying that there is too much gushing there, but I'm kind of thinking that could suit me fine because you know how I just love to gush! LOL. Do you ever go to the 'GOT' Facebook page?
-
SiriusGrande — 9 years ago(February 05, 2017 02:31 PM)
No, I've never messed with the GOT Facebook page. I use Facebook to keep in touch with friends and family both near and far. Luckily, some of them are also Thrones fans, so at least we can post to each other about the episodes as they come out.
Ah, well. I'm really going to miss "gushing" too. I no longer gushed about Gerry, but there seems to always be a new handsome face every now and then that I want to come gush about on IMDb. I'm going to miss that.
I keep looking at possible new forums/message boards for movies, TV shows, and actors, and none of them fit the bill right now. I guess when you get so used to a particular format and style of message board, it's hard to switch. -

This is a really good article about IMDB shutting down the message boards and why it is misguided

SiriusGrande — 9 years ago(February 05, 2017 05:22 PM)
That IS a really good article, Robyn. Thanks for sharing.
It's funny that just today I've watched two movies that I've not seen before (50 Shades and Magic Mikewe see what kind of mood I'M in today, LOL!), and my instinct is to go to those films' IMDb boards to see what is being said and discuss them.
It's going to really suck that I can't count on one easy-to-access site to do that with any movie, TV show, or actor in the future.
Damnit.
I know IMDb has issues with trolls, especially on the Politics board where it's just outrageous. GoT's board isn't much better, especially in the off-season. But that's not the case with every board.
I wish they'd close down the general topic boards like Politics, etc. and leave the boards for movies, TV Shows, actors and actresses. I guess th5b4e thinking is that the political discussions would just eek out into the other boards if they didn't have their own board. We know there were heavy political discussions on this very board years ago, and I've certainly seen political threads pop on on GoT's board over the years.
And I get the issue. I really do. Spend any time at the Politics board and you can see how toxic that place is. It's NOT a true reflection of our real life society. In real life, people with differing political views can discuss, debate, and disagree on things without it blowing out of proportion. But onlineespecially an anonymous, unmoderated message board, it just gets amplified X 100 be each side ruthlessly trolling and attacking the other side.
And, hell. We now have a President of the United States who trolls on social media himself, exacerbating the divide between the "left" and "right" even more.
It's too bad, it really is. People are so anxious to troll, bully, and fight with each other.
sigh
Magic Mike was really good. (LOL) -
Robyn51 — 9 years ago(February 05, 2017 06:25 PM)
Glad you liked the article Gretchen. I agree IMDB should get rid of just the boards that cause political dissent and over the top downright bullying and nastiness.
I refuse to watch any of the 50 Shades movies simply based on the fact that IMO the books were so very badly written they were insulting to anyone's intelligence who had ever read a good book in their life. IMO E L James would not know the meaning of provocative, titillating or 'erotic' if it jumped up and bit her. Just plain boring and repititive. Didn't she start with Twilight fan fiction or something? it really shows IMO and I won't be a part of promoting her. I hear Dakota Johnson was surprisingly good in the movies though. I will also not watch anything with IMO worst actor in the universe Channing Tatum (along with Keanu Reeves) if I can help it, so I guess Magic Mike is out for me too LOL. -
SiriusGrande — 9 years ago(February 05, 2017 07:02 PM)
Ha! Wow. Um. Well, I had never really paid Channing Tatum much mind, except in that Nicholas Sparks movie, Dear John. I thought he was okay in that, but I don't really like Nicholas Sparks movies or books (except The Notebook). I was pleasantly surprised by him in Magic Mike. He was witty and sharp, and I thought he did a great job acting. I've put off watching it for years because I thought it was just some flesh fest of naked men. People kept telling me it was actually a good movie, and they were right. I have more respect for Channing now. He's really good in it. Very natural and funny.
I agree about Keanu Reeves. He's like a robot.
I read the first 50 Shades. It's brainless smut for sure, and I didn't feel the need to go on in the series, but I hear they actually improve and the story gets deeper. I've started reading the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day (wellI'm on the third book, and I only started a week or so ago). You're right that 50 Shades started as Twilight fanfic. I'm actually intrigued by that as someone who has written fanfic myself. There is some outstanding fanfiction out there, some of it better than the stuff I see that's been published. But what's funny is, the Crossfire series is obviously knock-offs of 50 Shades. It's almost the same story, minus the BDSM stuff, and the heroine isn't as innocent as Ana. I think Crossfire is even more erotic though, plus it has a deeper plot and more developed characters right from the get-go. But, Gideon Cross and Christian Grey could almost be interchangeable.
For kicks, I tried watching the original Twilight movie on Netflix this weekend tooyou know, to revisit the "source material" of 50 Shades/Crossfire. God. Talk about a terrible movie. I read all of those books years ago. A student of mine let me borrow hers. As she'd finish reading one, she'd pass it along to me. Again, not great literature, but fun, easy reads. I can't remember if I've seen any of the other movies. I think so. Not really impressed with any of them.
Dakota really was good in 50 Shades. She's a good actress, and she's the only reason I could tolerate the movie. The guy playing Christian just didn't do anything for me though. He doesn't have the jaw-dropping good looks and sex appeal that I think is needed for that role. He looks too vanilla. -

I see some old familiar faces here! Yes, I miss the glory days here, too. Alas, Gerry and I went our separate ways long ago. And one of my favourite actors, John Hurt, just died.
I wish the old gang could come and hang out a bit before "boardageddon". I think I saw a TLoops somewhere on the board as I remember a trickster/troll, or who knows!! IB and Mobi and Medusa, good times.
