While I loved her as Ursela and her classic variety show skits, my favorite performance of hers would have to be.
Garfield Christmas Special. There is a scene where Pat, as the voice of Grandma, shares Christmas memories of her late husband. At the end of her touching monologue, barley holding back tears, she whispers "this is the night that I miss him the most."
It breaks my heart every time I watch it. The Emmy Awards comittee hadn't yet created the Outstanding Voice Over category, but if they had, then Pat Carroll should have definatly taken home the trophy. -

I remember Pat Carroll being on game shows, "The Red Skelton Show" during the 1960's. She was always great, an underrated comedienne among the very best. Her performance on an episode of "Love, American Style", circa 1970 stands out for the kind of character she played on the show; how funny she was on that episode; and the inspired chemistry she had with another unsung great comedienne, Nanette Fabray. I can only imagine if those two had been offered and had played in "The Golden Girls"!
