Yep you're all correct, Cassie has a Filipino father and a Mexican/West Indian mother. "West Indian" means Afro-Caribbean, I should know because I am West Indian (black) too. 88% of the people in the West Indies are black, so if you just say you're "West Indian", that automatically means you are black. If not, you would say "Indo-Caribbean" or "Chinese-Caribbean", etc. The West Indies are the Anglophone Caribbean islands and the mainland countries of Guyana and Belize. All were formerly part of the British West Indies.

She classifies herself probably as a mixed person.
And u're right, "her dad aint no asian guy you see walking in chinatown" because Chinatown has nothing to do with being filipinothey're totally different countires and cultures.
Check a map or geography book. -

why does she have to be clasified just as a black person or as an asian person only? she's both, so she's both.
that "some asian guy walking around chinatown" comment was pretty ignorant.
some people are just idiots. -

First of all, learn how to type. Second of all, no she IS NOT full-blooded African American and the subject IS NOT closed. Sorray.

why does she need to say she's black period? just because she has dark skin she's black? she even mentioned herself she had an Asian face. she half of her blood is a mixture of Mexican/West-Indian/Black and the other half is pure filipino, if what wikipedia says is correct. therefore she shouldn't have the need to classify herself into any category.
there are lots of celebrities out there that look black but are of mixed race and don't wanna classify themselves. According to some articles "Tiger Woods refers to his ethnic make-up as Cablinasian (a portmanteau term he coined from Caucasian, Black, American-Indian, and Asian)" Melanie B from the spice girls says "I always describe myself as being mixed race."
If you feel the need to leave out other parts of your ethnicity, then that's your problem. Not everything in this world is black & white. pun intended. -

she was on trl like last year and she straight up said she was filipino. they asked her what her last name was and she said "ventura, i'm filipino so yea." so she classifies herself as filipio. and to the person who said she can't be filipino because shes too pretty. you need filipino friends. why is it so hard to believe she isn't full black?
