Or it could be a disorder that disallows her from processing fats and sugars. Did your nurse mommy ever tell you about those? Who are you to sit here and judge people, anyway? You aren't a doctor. You certainly aren't HER doctor. And I'm sure she doesn't need someone who is less than a professional telling her how to live her life.

I just realized that while I am going through this whole board.. I am finding little good comments about her. Why are most of you bashing her? Oh, I got it, its because shes overweight and got a few acting parts that some of you "actors" couldnt come close to. I say you need to meet her, maybe she has a wonderful personality, she could be hilarious. You never know until you meet her. So.I am asking again.why are you basing you views on her by her looks. If you dont like it, or her, get off the thread. No one forced you to look at her. Shoo be gone. I would think this board is for the fans, and some constructive critisism, (for some of you that are still in diapers, that means not on looks, on her performance). She doesnt deserve hate. When I see her on screen, I don't see "fat". I see a totally huggable person. Sometimes some of you people worry me and then I have to ask myselfhow old are you? Some of you comments seem to come right out of highschool. And thats sad to have an additude like that.

I'm sure she IS aware that she is morbidly obese. That doesn't mae her a bad person, it just shows that she has poor self control and is lazy..I've heard that she is really nice though, which is the important thing. However im sure its a very rare thing HalfBrokenGlass that she has a disorderi mean she weighs 500 pounds and ive never heard of a disorder that severe and Im sure it would be known if she had a disorder anyway. Still she shouldn't have that much compassion from others because it is a condition at which she can fully control and there are other people who actually try to take care of the bodies they are born with by eating right and exercisingsurely she is nice but she seems to be taking advantage of all of her blessings by sitting around and eating too much, just like smokers and how they kill their lungs. But people who smoke are worse bc they are affecting the people around them with 2nd hand smoke, at least Cates isnt hurting anyone. Just be thankful that you are not in her situation and have it be a lesson not to become this unhealthy

Actually I do look at a anorexic person and point and laugh saying "Ha ha it's all your fault" because really it is. No one tells people to get to either end of the weight spectrum, it's their own fault. Sorry, but true.

It's hard to imagine how anyone can weigh that much.I wonder how long she has been that way?Ages ago I watched a program featuring an extemely obese woman who had said that going the restaraunts was really embarrasing.I'm unsure what the program was though.I do however known that the woman involved did decide to
have her stomach stapled.By the way that was a little over a decade ago that I saw that program. -

i agree with the OP being 500 pounds is soo terrible for youshes a walking heart attackif her being 16d0500 punds in hollywood makes women who are 500 pounds feel "better" about their bodies it isnt a good thing, no one should be 500 pounds 300 should be the max

Yes, her weight is incredibly unhealthy. But laughing at her is just plain obnoxious, whether or not it is her "fault."
Several cases of HIV and lung cancer are preventable, but mocking someone who gets such a condition (even if they "did something to get it") is incredibly cruel. Okay, so let's say they made poor decisions. Aren't they suffering enough? Same thing with morbid obesity. How people make fun of people who have "brought" upon themselves problems whether disease, homelessness, addiction, or whatever - is beyond me.
Besides, people who are obese are do not necessarily have poor self-control or are lazy. It is impossible to make such judgements without knowing people. Do you know about how she controls herself in other areas? Maybe she never succumbs to other pressures, unlike SOME people on this board who apparently can't keep themselves from making cruel statements? In my humble op, it says much more about your character if you can control what comes out of your mouth than if you can control what goes in.
Furthermore, morbid obesity does not happen overnight. It's not like someone stuffed themselves in a short period, and we can point to individual events in which we can say that they "failed" themselves. Obesity is a result of long years of patterns that are very difficult to break. A person may start out as overeating, then become chubby, and slowly descends upon a path that leads to morbid obesity. Yes, it was possible for them to stop themselves. Yes, they could have gotten help sooner. But it can be very, very difficult, particularly depending on several personality, situation, and biological factors. So how can you judge? Had you had her combo of personality, situation, and genes, you might have been the same way.
I used to be obese. I got help and now I am of a normal weight. It was the hardest thing that I have ever done. And I assure you that I am no better at "self control" than I used to be, nor am I less "lazy," nor is my character improved. I got better at controlling a certain area of my life, and you know what? I also got much worse and controlling other areas of my life. In any case, I learned very particular skills that helped me, but did not develop a new personality. So "obese me" is no worse than "normal weight" 5b4me.
Okay, rant overe. -

Amen! Very well said! thumbs up

Also I cannot bring myself to feel anymore sorry for one who gets themselves to 500 lbs any more than I can feel sorry for a person with cigarette-induced emphysema, because, much like the latter it is completely preventable, unlike renal failure, paralysis, and any other affliction that is not caused by a person's vices.
With smoking, the individual at some point made the choice to begin smoking cigarettes, I doubt very much that someone would choose to become obese (though you never know these days).
It's possible her parents were obese and she was never taught healthy eating habits. You see children on shows like Maury Povich all the time that are under 5 and approaching or surpassing 100 lbs because their parents can't say no to them (one I remember would eat an entire box of chicken nuggets for lunch at age 3). Kids like that are obviously going to be obese adults, but you can hardly blame them. Also she had children relatively young, perhaps it started with her pregnancy weight (as this is when many women first become overweight). Of course, she did have some control over it, but still.
Over-eating is a much tougher habit to kick than smoking. You can't stop cold turkey, you need food to live. People who quit smoking generally avoid the temptation for the rest of their lives, but how would you avoid food?
Not to mention, at this point, it's next to impossible for her to get exercise without risking a heart attack. Could you or I carry 500 lbs up a flight of stairs? Probably not. Plus, the amount of food needed just to keep blood pumping throughout a body that big must be astounding. -

So, you don't feel sorry for her because of her physical conditionbut have you (or your mother, as she seems to have encouraged this belief from you) considered feeling sorry for the her mental condition? Have you thought that, maybe, she might have had a mental condition that influenced her dietary and exercise habits? Probably not.
I also think it's reasonably retarded to say she deserves no sympathy as any size +300lbs is not something I think can naturally occur without an eating disorder (and yes, eating disorders CAN be about eating too much, rather than eating too little or making yourself throw up).We could be men with ven!

clearly the OP is stick thin and her nurse of a mother is too. what they don't understand is, is that by saying things like "its preventable" "obese people can get strokes" "how could she allow herself to get that size" not only makes them sound shrewd, ignorant, and shallowbut they don't realize that telling a morbidly obese person that its not right to be morbidly obese and that you can deal with depression other ways then eating too much, really doesn't help the situation. its actually kind of condescending, and rude. if you've never been in that situation you can't judge like that, and in the patient's mind it makes them depressed even more. its a life lesson the OP should have learned a really long time ago.
