You are wrong to say that obesity is no ones fault. Yes, some people are prone to obesity by their body types, people can also be preconditioned by their parents. If you have obese parents chances are their diets and eating habits aren't healthy. Too many fatty foods, over eating and a none balanced diet. Habits learned at childhood are very hard to break. Any body can be healthy, not everybody is going to be skinny. Not everybody has the hour glass body type or the perfect V-shaped body like a swimmer, but everyone does not have to be obese. Calories in, calories out. Will power combined with a balanced diet and lite exercise can do dramatic things especially for the obese. It is a disease but it's treatable and possible to cure. Unfortunately some of the side effects are not treatable, like the emotional scares left by the teasing. Now there is no excuse for teasing people that have a condition, but God didn't make those people eat the donuts, chips and candy. No baby has ever been born obese. That is a fact. Obese children are created by ignorant parents.

I'm sorry, but this was a very ignorant thing for you to say gr3hughes. I am obese. I have been obese most of my life because of my genetics. If my parents weren't the ones telling me all the time how I was too fat, people at school were. Never once, did anyone attempt to teach me self-confidence so that I would have the psychological, and emotional ability to overcome my obesity. I learned to seek out "comfort foods" to help me escape. I didn't ask to be fat, and I certainly didn't ask to be ridiculed by society, and my family.
Over the past two years, I have managed to lose a total of 60 pounds, but I am still, and most likely will for the rest of my life, battle my weight.
I exercise 3 to 4 times a week, and do my best to eat right, but suffering from depression, oftentimes causes me to revert back to my "comfort foods", and that certainly doesn't help.
Yes, some overweight people are overweight due to their genes, some due to emotional problems, and some because of both.
But please get this straight. Oftentimes, it is not something we can control. Contrary to society's beliefs, it IS a disease. It is one that is the most criticized and misunderstood of all diseases. Most doctors look at their overweight patients and merely tell them to go on a diet, but fail to address the psychological reasons that lay behind WHY they are eating so much.
Going on a diet and trying to lose the weight isn't going to be successful, unless the underlying reasons WHY the person is eating so much is addressed.
Unfortunately, the majority of society wants to turn a blind eye to the obese and continues to tell them "just go on a diet and lose the weight. You'll look better, you'll feel better, and you'll be healthier." Well, guess what? Out of those three reasons, the only lasting one for most overweight people, is that they'll be healthier. Without help, the happiness from losing weight will be fleeting, and they'll fall back into their depression, and start putting the weight back on, and they'll stop thinking that they look better, and that will also continue the cycle and they'll revert back to eating to make them feel better.
I just thought you should be enlightened to the truth.

Hi, I can relate to being obese! I used to weigh 500 pounds. People seem to think they have a license to laugh at, tease or otherwise make mean comments about us. I hated it!
About 4 years ago I found a program through Mayo Clinic that has worked wonders for me. I have lost 255 pounds and kept it off for 3 years now. You can read my story in my BLOG: www.HappyHealthy225.Blogspot.com. Nope I'm not selling anything, just trying to promote healthy eating and lifestyle. Good luck to everyone.
I used to be in contact with Darlene, but I haven't heard from her in a couple years. Do you know what she is doing now? Is she well? She is a great actress and I too would like to see her more. God Bless everyone!

To those of you who say you act and she's not an actress because she wsa playing herself.
Educate yourself on acting and read David Mamets book, True and False. It is the single best acting book I have ever read written by what many people call the modern Shakespear. in that book he outlines how to act, and how to really act, not put on a self aware, self glorified proformance. Basically, he says acting is about playing yourself as honestly and naturaly as possible.
And to you who bash her because she "doesn't know how to act and you do".. how many movies have you sta5b4rred in? Probably less than her right? Maybe that should tell you something. Its not always the best actors that make it big, its the most persistant ones.

On the other side of the spectrum is the problem of not being able to gain weight.
I wish it was possible to have fat banks that operated in the same manner as blood banks do now.
