Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Caroline Catz

I like Caroline in Doc Martin and have gotten used to her as Louisa. She and Martin Clunes are well suited and have good chemistry and both very good actors. She seems more suited to Martin Clunes than his real wife who is the Director or Producer of the show. I like Doc Martin. He lacks confidence with Louisa and gets into so much trouble with her. Louisa is just getting close to Martin when he gets panicky and says something stupid. Then he regrets it. But they are still drawn to each other. I love the characters on the show like Stephen Wright and Elaine. I see the show every week on TV in Canada, and have a couple of DVD's of Doc Martin. I am looking forward to Series 4 and more. Hope its soon.

Isn't 2009 her last year on the show? I think her story arc has been played out and I don't see her character as particularly suited to Doc Martin.her character is whiney, self-absorbed and not understanding of him, but I realize it makes for good tv, the tension that is. I'm at the end of season 3 but I'm tired of her

I think she is plain lovely, and that her connection with Martin offers tension and human understanding. Both appear - as characters that is - to be slightly autistic, that is that they although drawn to each other really lack understanding of one another. A slight Asperger touch, to use the most recent pop term. Having followed the series intermittedly I am a real fan of this lady, and of Doc Martin as a whole. English TV returns at the top!

I don't get the autistic/Asperger's thing with her at all; I think her character just maintains a skillful distance from Martin in the way a very smart person would do that, rather than running after him and smothering him. I haven't seen every episode of the show, so maybe I've missed something you've seen, but I haven't seen any evidence of her having any sort of oddness around other people. I think Louisa just tries to handle Martin in a way other people can't.
And she is really attractive, I think. One of those people who carries around this persona that is just simply more than the appearance itself. It matters how the whole person is that's what makes the person attractive, it's the looks plus whatever else makes up the person or character and she really just has it. I don't mean to say she's not attractive on the basis of her looks alone, but there's more to it than that, as there is with any "lovely" person.
The show is oddly addicting, it really is.

I think Clifford was referring to Martin as having Asperger's, not Louisa.

I was going by this statement: "Both appear - as characters that is - to be slightly autistic, that is that they although drawn to each other really lack understanding of one another." Am I missing something?
