I hear ya SlimShady852003. My DH and I watched the movie Ray last night, and we were both shocked by the lack of morals and disrespect he seemed to have for his wife because of all the many girlfriends he had. I'm sorry, but that movie did nothing to make him look like a 'good' person. Sure his music was alright, but his life was terrible You can say 'you don't know him personally' but if i got that opinion from a public movie about his life it doesn't really say much for him.

Actually when I like a musician, I like them for both their personalities, their views on things, the way they dress, the way they act in interviews, if they act like a person that is full of themselves or something then I don't like them, I don't believe that you should like somebody that thinks they're Gods. Because they're not. Ray Charles thought he was a God, and he wasn't, I'm entitled to my opinion and if you people don't like what I'm saying then maybe you shouldn't read and post here anymore. Thanks. Bye.

you also gotta realise that everyone else has an oppinion, you talk about showing respect, your name is slimshady, you got respect for eminem? he aint such a great person either. what person doesn't have their faults, Ray may have had ones such as drugs and women but he overcame his blindness and the racism during his time. i think he deserves respect for that.

Chances are, people wil disagree, considering this board is for Ray so the majority of people will be fans. ass.
If what robinette717 is saying is true, then you my friend, have been proved wrong.
Oh and as far as you being 'lonely' is concerneddo you really think anybody here really gives a damn? Do you really think ANYBODY gives a damn for that matter. Stop moaning about how other people got everything and go out and at least >attempt< to improve your obviously empty live. 'Thanks. Bye'

Yesterday, June 10, 2005, on the first anniversary of Ray Charles' death, all of his kids and 3 of their mothers [Della, Mae and me] got together to honor and celebrate their father - the wonderful man who touched their lives so deeply; and to celebrate the Robinson "tribe".
The service, which was conducted by Ray Charles' 3rd oldest son, Rev. Robert F. Robinson, was small [family only] and touching. All of the kids spoke, and Sheila sang.
FYI, in addition to supporting all of his children financially, as much as he could, Ray Charles was part of their lives, went to their graduations, weddings, etc. In fact, for Corey [his youngest] he would even visit his school on career days, and explain to Corey's classmates what Ray Charles did for a living. He always kept current on Corey's report cards, talked to his teachers, remembered his birthdays, and made sure his staff knew to interrupt him if Corey wanted to see him, even if he was in his studio and his red light was on.
Ray Charles set up generous trust funds for all of his children, but more importantly, he made sure that all of his children knew each other. There is a lot of love in the Robinson 'tribe' - both between the 12 brothers and sisters, but also, for the wonderful man who was their father.
I really wish that people like you who do not know anything about Ray Charles would stop talking about him. In addition to overcoming poverty, racism, and drug addiction, to achieve musicial genius and financial success, Ray Charles had great personal integrity and was a great humanitarian who gave millions to various universities, and left the majority of his wealth to the Robinson Foundation for Hearing Disorders, for charitable purposes.
Lastly, no-one, except you, thinks Ray Charles "was a god". Actually, Ray Charles had strong life-long religious beliefs and faith in God, which during the last couple of years of his life, ripened into a more personal faith.
Thanks to all who express love for RC - please know that it is sincerely appreciated by his family.

You people just don't get it do you? This board was not supposed to offend anybody and if it did, then thats to bad, it was just to start a conversation, but obviously, you people can't handle that, if you people can't handle critism then get off the boards, thats just the way it is, get over it and move on. Oh and by the way, I never said he was a god, I said he thought he was a god, for the lady who claims she was the mother of one of Ray Charles kids. Anyway, if you're offended then you deserve to be, because you can't exept the fact that I was just asking a question, trying to make conversation, if you can't handle it, then like I said beefore, get off the boards. Later!

It's more of a debate, what's so bad about a debate? it's bad if your losing, which you are.
'I will not disagree with that. But honestly he was not a good person. He did drugs, he cheated on his wives, how can you really respect a person like that?'
^ I'm sure that would piss a few people off. especially considering that is just an undeducated rant.

No actually a debate is when people talk about things, you people are all jumping on my back not that I care because nothing you say will get me mad because I believe in what I believe in, and if you people truely believe that he was such a great man, then you all wouldn't worry about the things that I'm saying, and instead of being calm and talking about it like civilized people you just get mad. Get over it people, don't get mad, like I said in my last post, it wasn't to get people mad, and if you got mad, thats your problem, thats the way I see it. Nothing will change it.

Look, I'd like to admit that Ray Charles was not a saint but he never thought of himself as God. His abuses of celebrity are just in line with most of the top celebrites in his day. The days of guys like Jimmy Stewart populating Hollywood and music in mass numbers are never going to happen. But, that doesnt mean that we have to vilify those celebrites. Bottom line, Ray did alot of bad and he did alot of good, but the good outweighs the bad. He has brought a whole other generation to jazz in part of a movie that bares his namesake. I grew up with an interest in the show the "The Simpsons" that thats where I got my love of jazz. When I watched "Ray" that affirmed my love for jazz. His biopic was about the music and his influence but also who the demons of adultery have clouded great men. I've done alot of sinning but I trust that my faith and good works help God see that thats who I was. The same goes for Ray, who was a great humatitarian. SlimShady, all of us here at the "Ray" forum, feel passionate about Ray, he's touched our lives. Please dont take offense when we defend this great man who was a great patriot also.
I've got more money than Dave Chappelle now.
                              -Charlie Murphy

I would have replied alot more respectfully if you were alot more respectful towards Ray and his fans. You gave points that are nothing more than rumours, also, saying 'how can you really respect a person like that?' - I would find that rather insulting, i'll show you respect if show some towards me and others on this board.

You gotta give respect to get it. I was showing nobody disrespect until they started showing me disrespect, I was simply stating my opinion on Ray Charles, whether you fe5b4lt it was disrespectful or not, it doesn't matter, all you had to do was give me respect and I probably would have stopped writing on this board a long time ago, but as the disrespects keep coming my way, I throw right back.

I did not personally konw Ray Charles, but I have heard of his "deeds". It shows what fame and fortune can do to a man. He made bad decisions, yes, but I can take a lesson from it. His life was like one big party, and by that I mean he was always singing, people were around him (like a party) so he kept living his life like a party and did things to keep the excitement there. This is atleast how I saw it.

It is sad that people try and put artists on pedestals and expect them to be perfect, then hate them because they are not. You should not idolise somebody, and expect them to adhere to your values, then disown them because they don't. Acceptance is key, Ray Charles was not perfect. But nobody is.. Many people are bad, but Ray Charles was an incredible talent and deserves respect for the hard work he put into his music. What he did with his personal life concerns him and the people close to him.
