You gotta give respect to get it. I was showing nobody disrespect until they started showing me disrespect, I was simply stating my opinion on Ray Charles, whether you fe5b4lt it was disrespectful or not, it doesn't matter, all you had to do was give me respect and I probably would have stopped writing on this board a long time ago, but as the disrespects keep coming my way, I throw right back.

I did not personally konw Ray Charles, but I have heard of his "deeds". It shows what fame and fortune can do to a man. He made bad decisions, yes, but I can take a lesson from it. His life was like one big party, and by that I mean he was always singing, people were around him (like a party) so he kept living his life like a party and did things to keep the excitement there. This is atleast how I saw it.

It is sad that people try and put artists on pedestals and expect them to be perfect, then hate them because they are not. You should not idolise somebody, and expect them to adhere to your values, then disown them because they don't. Acceptance is key, Ray Charles was not perfect. But nobody is.. Many people are bad, but Ray Charles was an incredible talent and deserves respect for the hard work he put into his music. What he did with his personal life concerns him and the people close to him.

So I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Nothing anyone has said here offends me, makes me mad, upsets me, etc. However I jsu twant to add something. I respect Ray for his music and everything he accomplished in his life (musically, blindness, etc.). Yes, infadelity and narcotic abuse is something alot of people do not have alot of respect for, I hate it for one because being in the entertainment business myself (an actor, not musician) I have seen the effects it has on people and more imortantly the people around them. However, I have a huge respect 1c84for the fact that Ray took care of his children, was involved with them to the end, and he over came drug abuse problems. Over comming a habit that you have is something major, as I think most everyone on this board would agree, it may be the only thing we'd all agree on but you all seem like decently intelligent people. Well that's all for my 'neutral' comment but I must say again. Eventhough there were many things the man did in his life that were not exactly great and disrespectable but look at what he did that is respectable.

"But honestly he was not a good person."
Who are you to judge what a good person is? I'm sure you have made a few mistakes in your life. Some of them worse than others. You may not have taken drugs and you may not have cheated on your wife but that doesn't make you a better person than Ray Charles. I actualyl think he is an incredibly strong person, he didn't let being blind and the way he was treated for it stop him getting to the top. He never lied to his wife or his girlfriends, he was completely honest and he had love for his family.
"I just don't believe he deserves all the credit that is given to him."
Again, your opinion really doesn't matter.
"but it's hard to repsect a persons music when they can be such a horrible person."
Moron. How does a recording artists personal life affect the way you hear their music? His life had nothing to do with you. His music was public, and yes, I grant you, so was his life but it's still none of your business.
"I'm a very lonely person, I would do anything to have a girlfriend,"
Does this explain why you sit around on this forum slating Ray Charles?
"Try reading before you relpy to things or you may just end up looking stupid."
What? You mean like you do?
"Ray Charles thought he was a God, and he wasn't"
How do you know this? Have you had a personal conversation with him where he has said this? I doubt it very much.
"Anyway, if you're offended then you deserve to be" but I thought you said "This board was not supposed to offend anybody and if it did, then thats to bad"
I'm beginning to think that YOU don't even know what you're talking about, God help the rest of us.
"I can honestly say that it would never happen to me, I wouldn't let it."
That's impossible to say as you have never, and probably will never be in that situation.
"Thats all I'm saying.", "Thanks. Bye.",
Do you mean it? You'd said several times that it's your last post but you never deliver. 😞
Well there you go. I've read your posts like you asked and I still don't agree with you. I can't understand how the personal life of Ray Charles can get to you so much and how the personaly life of any artist can make you dislike their music? Their life is nothing to do with you, or me, or anyone else on this board - what makes you think it is? I have ALOT of repsect for this man. No, he didn't always make the best choices but that's not for me to make judgement on. Who am I to say what is good and what is bad? No one, I'm not God. Sounds like you think you are, since you know exactly what's wrong and what's right and since you have decided that your way of arguing (despite a whole post in caps) is correct and everyone else is wrong just because they don't agree with you. You're going to have to learn to deal with it, the whole world is one big debate and you won't always be right. Not by a long shot.

Dad-gum right I respect Ray Charles! What's not to respect? He had to grow up poor, black, and blind, and he rose up out of this all to become not just a great musician, but a LEGEND. Not only could he tear up a piano (without the seemingly prerequisite ability to see the keyboard), but he also had a voice that could give people chills and goosebumps. How could anybody not respect him?
He had flaws, like ANY human being. Heroin makes you a different person, and if Ray hadn't been doing that junk, he may not have had so many marital problems/infidelities. But even though drug abuse is wrong, the troubles that he faced helped to make him what he was, and without his problems, his griefs, his woes, and his flaws, would he have been the same Ray Charles who could put all of that pain into a song for the world to hear?

yeah, exactly. like, i'm not a Joan Rivers fan - mainly for her voice. don't know a whole lot about her/her line of work TBH - but if it weren't for her voice, for instance, she wouldn't be who she is.

Sure he did drugs, sure he had women on the sides.
But alot of mucisians have done thb68e exact same thing, hell Bill Clinton might not have done drugs, but he did have a (maybe more than one) woman on the side. My 2 cents here is generally Except for his blindness he was just like everybody else.
I'm not defending either doing drugs or cheating on the wife. But having something against a guy for doing like everybody else just seems wrong.
