Colbert is a liberal Democrat, but is reluctant to acknowledge it, as he rarely acts as a real person. He takes cheap shots at people and immunizes himself from criticism by attributing it all to the character he plays. In other words, he is a coward.
Colbert must be very angry at Republicans, after his sister lost a Congressional race to Mark Sanford. To vent, he mocked the Congressional hearings where government whistleblowers testified about the Benghazi attacks where four people died. I doubt their families found it funny. What a punk. -

Have you seen what he did during the White House Correspondents' Dinner with Bush? I wouldn't call that the work of a coward.
You're also forgetting a lot worse things have happened under Bush's watch and not one single voice of outrage from conservatives and Republicans. This Benghazi "scandal" is manufactured to politically discredit Hilary Clinton. -

Oops. Turns out it was only 750 jobs.
And he gave Carrier 7 million in tax dollars to automate their factory aka replace people with robots. So in 5 more years most of those 750 people will be out on the street, but Carrier gets to keep the free money anyway.
