I always tell everyone that Gary channeled Robert Reed in those Brady Bunch movies. Cole is a great talent.

I'm watching it right now. Cole is a genius no doubt. For me these movies are the best adaptions of a TV show I've seen in the comedy genre. Funny and yet sincere too.

When it comes to acting, Gary Cole is among the best. Seriously underrated. I'm a fan so anything I say will always be favorably skewed.
          The Brady Bunch
is a funny movie and Gary makes it funnier. He did the same thing with
          Talledega Nights

I couldn't agree more! He's been fantastic in everything I've ever seen him in. I don't think he gets near the recognition or respect he deserves. And I think he's one of the relatively few actors who seems equally adept at both comedy and drama.
            Love
            Gary Cole's work!
And yes, his portrayal of Robert Reed as Mike Brady was uncanny. And I think that's exactly what he was doing. He wasn't just playing Mike Brady he was playing Robert Reed playing Mike Brady. Which is tough to do without coming across like you're making fun of the original actor. But he really wasn't, IMO. It was an homage, not a spoof. The movie dialogue largely spoofed the original material, so what he was saying often made fun of things the original Mike Brady would say, but the portrayal itself was completely sincere. Brilliant stuff!

You're one of the few people to notice that it was indeed an homage to Robert Reed and not a spoof, and it was brilliant. And I'm someone who hated "The Brady Bunch" with a passion but was forced to watch it on occasion, I thought the movies were better than the show, lol!!
Gary Cole has been one of my favorite actors almost all my life and I wish he would WIN something for all his effort.

so true that he's apedt at comedy & drama alike. ive always known him as being so laugh out loud funny (his awesome Mike Brady, Ricky Bobby's dad, etc) but man oh man spoiler what happened to him in The Joneses was so terribly dramatic it put me in such a melancholy funk for a few days; i kept forgetting it didnt actually happen to him.

All I can do is agree with everyone else. I was bowled over the first time I saw the Brady Bunch movie. What a versatile actor, I first saw him in "Night Caller", and them "American Gothic". In the later he played a great demon disguised as a small town sheriff. His name was Lucas Buck. Or as he reminded people, "That's Buckwith a B."
