Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Gary Cole

    darinwerner — 16 years ago(April 16, 2009 11:11 PM)

I was amazed to see how many movies and parts he has had, particularly ones before the movie in which I first became aware of him. I had even probably seen some of the other movies, but he just didn't register until..
    OFFICE SPACE!
So, what movie was the first one that made you remember him afterward?

He was spot-on in OFFICE SPACE. I also remember him as the evil sheriff on a short-lived nighttime soap opera, AMERICAN GOTHIC. But my earliest sighting of Cole had to be in 1984's FATAL VISION, in which he played real-life murderer Dr. Jeffrey McDonald. He was pretty convincing as a killer.

Fatal Vision is the first movie I remember seeing Gary Cole as the star.

It was probably Son of the Morning Star, but the first time I really recognised him and remembered him was American Gothic. Who could ever forget Lucas Buck?

FATAL VISION and he's been great ever since. I love his work, just think he's the greatest, he can do just about anything, a real actor.

I first remember seeing him in Vital Signs. There was some scene where he injected himself in the thigh with whatever drugs he was abusing that stuck in my mind for some reason. Despite the fact that he was not in the most flattering role I developed an instant crush on him that I still have to this day.

It's funny, but I tend to think everyone else must have discovered an actor/actress the exact moment I did. Obviously, that is silly and from all these post it would seem everyone had a different movie. Interesting what sticks in peoples' minds.

Office Space. I was so impressed after that I started watching other stuff he did, such as American Gothic.

Fatal Vision. I was just a kid but he made an impression on me (now I know it was his great acting). I've always known who he was in his subsequent roles ever since. When I saw him play Mike Brady, (now that I was an adult) I realized how great he was. Years later I've recently purchased American Gothic on dvd and now I know I love him:)

Yeah, I think that was it and then Ricky Bobby.

The Brady Bunch Moviehe was fantastic in that movie, as well as in the sequel. He and Christine Taylor had their7ec parts down the best.
Office Space a few years later. Freakin' love Bill Lumbergh. I can quote that guy for days. Great job!
Talladega Nights, which I'm watching right now actually, as Reese Bobby. He's hilarious in this as well!
Gary Cole is a great actorI love him in everything I've seen him in.
